put the timing back and tack weld the damn sprocket in place...yer gonna junk the engine anyway...at least you'll be able to drive it for a while.

PS... perform a front 60k first :thumb:

PSS...I guess your cam timing WAS off a tooth or 2.

yeah, I tightened my crank bolt to holy-shit-tight torque. I maxed my craftsman air gun out... I'd rather have to spend two hours getting it back off than having to get a new crank!

I had a similar experience a few months back.
Mechanic called and said the reason your cars isn't running right is the crank pulley has slipped!
OH MY GOD,I thought to myself...Crank Cancer.
but, after i settled down and found out that the crank was OK,just the key and pulley were worn out..I got on the forum ,purchased a good used key and pulley...and now ,all is good
i was thinking about posting my second[ reminder to Gen-1 owners to check the harmonic balancer pulley at least once a year but you saved me the time.

Cut a little hole in the plastic fender liner opposite the crank pulley bolt so all you have to do is remove the tire and reach in with a long extension through the hole to check torque periodically. Torque to the upper end of the spec to compensate for the (minimal) torsion wrap-up in the long extension. I check it every time I rotate the tires.

Is there room to do this from the top with a short extension on a half inch ratchet? I know that I have plenty of room with the battery in the trunk but I know that most people have theirs up front.

ummmmm no. There's barely enough room to tighten the tensioner on an ATX with a short socket. It would be very, very difficult to get down there from the top.
