I have taken my car to Ford for both the 10k and 20k service intervals. One of the service techs told me I should be bringing it in every 5k miles, even though the car itself tells me 5k is only half of the oil life.

What say the forum?

the oil change interval is 5000 miles or 6 months, whichever occurs first.

I change my oil every 5000 miles. Seems like a small price to pay as insurance.

If you do a lot of stop and go driving, better to go with the severe duty schedule (5k/6months), otherwise the normal of 7.5k/6month schedule should be fine. Note that under the severe duty schedule, transmission fluid exchange interval is reduced from 150,000 miles to 30,000 miles.

Special Operating Conditions (severe duty schedule)
However, if one or more of the Special Operating Conditions outlined below better describes how you typically operate your vehicle, you will need to perform some maintenance services more often than the Normal Schedule recommends.
• Towing a trailer or carrying heavy loads
• Extensive idling and/or driving at low-speeds for long distances
• Driving in dusty conditions
• Off-road operation
• Use of E85 fuel 50% of the time or greater (flex fuel vehicles only)

I just wait until the oil life monitor tells me it's time for a change. I usually get it changed when its down to around 10%. That's worked out to 'almost' twice per year for me around 6 changes in 40k miles with Ford Motorcraft synthetic blend and tire rotation (The Works) at the dealer for $29 each time.

Every 30,000 miles – Change automatic transmission fluid (not required
on 6R60/6R80/TorqShift transmissions) - straight from manual we have torqshift ones dont we?

I believe the TorqShift transmissions are R series ((diesel?) trucks) not F series. The SHO transmission is 6F55.
