Is your SHO MTX or ATX? If MTX and the timing belt tensioner is too tight, it can cause a whining noise. It could also be an accessory belt that is over tightened.

Does it change with RPM?

There is an adjustment hole in the timing cover to check the tensioner. Since it is manually adjusted it is possible there is too much tension. During a 60k I had mine a bit tight and after re-adjusting it the car was fine.

Also, did you replace (and gap) the CPS properly? That can make a weird noise if you didn't....

A mechanic's stethoscope would also help isolate the area where the noise is coming from for sure.
