help backfire upon no start

Well after letting it sit for 3 weeks after it mysterously died. I got it started again by installing a dis that i got out of a 91. After getting it started which was hard because i have to crank it for about 20 seconds to start it without starter fluid. After getting it started I have to continue holding the gas pedal because it wont hold idle and just drops till it dies. after driving it around the block it started to hesistate and backfire through the intake. Now last time i had it checked he told me that there was alot of resistnce in the wire that comes from that black box on top of the radiator not sure of name. but the wire that control the signal to the fel pump or somthing. anyways i tried to change it with the one from the 91 but it didnt work. i also have the matching ecu would that work if I changed both? I recently changed the fuel pump, radiator and fan, plugs. oh and i have a 89.
any ideas?

You could start by checking the wires coming out of the IRCM relay, the black box near the rad. That does control the fuel pump and other stuff. Seems if swapping it didn't help it could be the wiring, check for loose or corroded wires.
