Hi all.
I am in the middle od building my 3.2 and I want to cange my cam cap bolts to studs so I dont have to worry about stripping them. I have see a picture of it (though I cant seem to find the post now). The person said that they used threaded rod to make the studs. Well I am having a heck of a time finding suitable threaded rod. First off no one carries M7x1.00 rod in stock. Any bolts that are available are too short to make studs out of. Fastenal can get threaded rod, but it is only grade 2....I am thinking this is way too soft. On line I found a place to get grade 4.6 threaded rod. Would this work? I am not worried about it holding the torque specs....the grade 2 will do that. I am worried about the tension from the valve springs causing it to stretch or wear the threads over time. Anyone know where I can get hardend threaded rod or bolts that are long enough to make studs out of? Would the grade 4.6 be okay for this application? Thanks

I would contact ARP and see what they can find. They should be able to come up with a solution.

That's what I thought...

FWIW, when I took my heads in for new valves and guides, I just told them what I wanted and let them deal with the rest. They ordered what they needed, cut and ground them to fit. I think I have a spare stud or two in on of my boxes of SHO stuff. I'll see if I can locate it this weekend if you'd like.

mcmaster carr doesnt even show m7 studs in thie drop down menu, and their m8x50mm studs w/ full length threading price out at 5.23 each

m8x50mm w/25mm threaded studs price out at 2.45

I found some 7mmx1.0 by 50mm full thread bolts in a class 8.8 (grade 5) at www.theboltdepot.com. You can buy buy the piece or box of 100. I got the box cause it was only a couple more bucks. Total with shipping for bolts, nuts, washers and locked washers was like 45 bucks. I'll just cut the heads off.
