I have my car in the shop, they are going to do the timing chain, but didn't recommend the water pump...when I asked why we wouldn't do the water pump the response I got was "oh we can do that"

This morning I asked about the cam phasers and the response I got was "We don't see issues with the phasers on these and at the mileage you are at"

2015 SHO PP 125,000 miles for reference. Makes absolutely no sense to me for them to not do the phasers, but looking for opinions.

Once you're in there, you do it all (water pump, phasers, chain, guides) IMHO. You'll never need to open it up again.
Thank you, I agree but you really start second guessing yourself after 2 days of arguing with the tech when he is saying these things aren't necessary.

Agreed! This adventure began 7 months ago when I suspected I blew a turbo. I took it to my little local shop, who I love and have used before, but they quoted $8,000 to do the turbos and said I blew the engine. I was suspect with the turbo price and wasn't sold on needing a new engine. I felt like it was above their heads so I towed it home where it sat and I debated next moves until this week. I finally decided the dealership would give me a good direction on the engine and turbos.....yet here I am with them talking crazy about timing chain components and my trust issues have kicked in.
With the known problems of the water pump, I'd be wary of a dealer or tech that wouldn't insist on changing the pump at that mileage, especially

I'm kind of surprised they didn't push to upsell you phasers and water pump.
Right! Especially considering I had a list of 8 things that need attention immediately‼️‼️‼️ to the tune of a couple thousand extra dollars that had nothing to do with why I took in it.

Now this is just becoming laughable....
u know, forget price, its a horrible job, and well after reading this thread what the dealer/tech wanted was to either soak you for going back in after a problem, then say it had nothing to do with the work they did, which tbh would be stupid, but hey.... just get the work done is the motto, shame you have no other options and the work started.

keep sending us the laughs. its your right as a customer to say charge me more, but i need the following accomplished. I have read hundreds of posts here, and countless FB shitola and never does anyone ever not include all the parts while in there and bake it into the price.

I had my daily driver engine replaced, and I paid good money for a car worth 2k, I had ALL the sensors tested, at first the shop said, we know your knock is failing... thats a definate and its behind the exh manifold in back of transverse engine... but they said no worries on the others.

After properly ohm testing ALL sensors, 5, yes 5 needed replacement from a 170+K engine. Morale, replace it now... if the other part was going, the others are too. planned obsolecense, how do you motivate someone at a 100K to buy a new car tell them the cost of doing a proper water pump replacement on this car, and all the parts that should be replaced at that time.

can u afford nearly 6-7K worth of work, or buy a new car at $800/month.

PS my DD:

They showed me the test results since they are now 100% computerized shops, its in the web portal... what was normal ohms/borderline and failing.

The sad part is I am more than willing to pay, I have absolutely no intention of getting rid of this car. I understand it's a big job, but I don't appreciate being treated like I know nothing. At $3,354.73 for the timing chains and water pump it just amazing the phasers and guides would be $1,200++. I know they have to come off for the water pump so what is the cost for...parts of course but the math isn't mathing.

I'm in a mood to be a b**** and prove a point, so I will call and make sure they know how idiotic they are, but I've convinced myself I will not be letting them do that job. Probably going to let them do the turbos because not much is hateful there and I already paid for the tow, but I will look elsewhere for my timing chain/water pump job. Also in 3 days the guy hasn't called me once, I was all in to drop major cash for them to do all the fixes but if you can't even pick up the phone...no thanks.

I think you made the right decision to bot let then touch the inside of your motor.
If it was me, my car would be at another location presently.
If they can't see the sound logic of doing all the associated parts with the timing chain, that says it all to me. Like Krypto said, after reading everything on the internet regarding the subject, most If not all SHO owners do the whole job. Not half ass.

It sounds like they are charging you for book hours per job, not the entire job. Thus they are double booking hours IMHO. Somebody here must know the book hours on the single job.
