I wanted to know what the best brand for turbos, obviously OEM would be best. But Borgwarner & Garrett GT turbos are both very good. Im only asking as I want to upgrade mine since ill already be getting the timing chain, water pump, phasers & guides done. Tell me what you think would be best as far as cost. I am NOT cheaping out on this as I daily drive my car. 125k currently on it. Been running extremely well since march. 2015 non-PP SHO. I want whats best for longevity. Also what brand did you guys use as far as upgrading them? I plan to give this a tune and intake for alittle more umph on the road.

I am in the same boat. My water pump is out and it has 138k. Maybe just rebuild the old ones? Upgrade bearings? Would you upgrade the oil line tubes too?

If you run in stock or replacement turbs, you're fine.If you want gearhead Gen. 3 turbos, you'll need a tune and a hpfp fuel pump. That's when you start to make more power.

I would just rebuild the turbos while you're in there replace the water pump and timing chain + guides and phasers too. I haven't had any issues and currently at 129k but I've had two issues happen intermittently. When i really lay into it like passing another car WOT i let off and bam check engine light flashes and it ran like shit. Scanned it and 1st problem was a misfire on cylinder #6 and i cleared it and no issues. My 2nd issue occurred today while driving home from work i had to pass someone who was going 10 under so naturally i got on it in frustration and bam same issue only it popped up as an intake camshaft circuit open or whatever and i cleared that code and restarted the car and no check engine light. Narrowed both issues down to sensitive/bad or loose wiring going to the coil, and the front bank has a broken connector clip for the VVT so i used a zip tie to hold it on and it hasnt gave me any issues until recently. Im afraid to drive it or lack of thereof *stomp the gas and it wigs out on me again* but only to get on the freeway or to go around slow pokes that shouldn't be on the road. Sorry for my rant but this car has been reliable but the miles are racking up and im not quite wanting to dump more money into it.

It has a tune, stock everything else. Has the noise maker blocked off and has a catch can.

Man that is frustrating. I understand about dumping money into it. I spent 20k on the car lol Covid times sucked and this was the car I thought I wanted… if my warranty doesn’t cover the water pump I’m thinking about dumping it to carvana and picking up something else from Japan. Something old and easy to work on with less maintenance. My work truck does what you’re talking about, floor it and it sputters, I turn the truck off and the light goes off and it runs smooth again. It’s a F750 I wonder if it too is a coil.

I lucked out, my warranty covers the water pump. I told the shop to check play in the shafts, the turbos may be under warranty as well! How bulletproof are these after the water pump and turbos are done? Another 100k?
