Heat shield - important?

Well, I am over the **** with the wagon and I am putting it back together after a subframe swap. I have a used aftermarket Ypipe that has the rear heatshield off. Looks like the little spot welds broke. Do I need it? If so, can I drill though the spot welds and bolt it together?

You don't need it UNLESS you park on tall dry grass alot!

Well, If there is no affect on the car, I guess I'll leave it off. I'll just watch for dry grass zones.

mine fell off several weeks ago. I'm just leaving it off.

Well, I'm putting it on today - I'll just stay away from wherever that picture was taken!
