Okay, try this one on...

Normally my heater works great, no complaints, but lately it seems to randomly quit working. Now, let me explain. I will be driving along and suddenly notice that the car is not getting any warmer, actually getting colder. The fan is still running and there is still heat coming out of the vents. But it is very minimal compared to the amount that the fan is running. I don't know if this even makes sense. It is like someone placed a block over the main blower inhibiting the air from really circulating. The blower blows on high and minimal heat comes out. I am puzzeled. I have search v8sho and this forum and have found nothing. Any thoughts guys, toledo tends to be chilly this time of year.

Oh, one other thing, if I shut the car off and let it sit for awhile the heater will work fine when I get back in.

Thanks guys for any help!

First make sure the coolant tank is within an 1" of completely full. Pay no attention to the cold/hot level marks. If the sytem is low on coolant then the heat will come and go.

Other than that maybe a blend door problem.

So the heater blower is moving the same amount of air, it's just not as warm as before?

When you say that the car is not getting any warmer are you refering to the cabin temprature, engine temprature or both? How old is the thermostat?
Dose your car have a cabin air filter (I believe the all do but not sure) and how long has it been since it was replaced?

Coolant level....checked and good
Cabin Air filter...I replaced it this summer

Other then that, no no, it is just the cabin temperature that is not getting any warmer, and this only happens infrequently at best. Seems totally random and yes it happens in all settings. The temp of the air, which still comes out of the vents a little, is hot (or normal temp) but it is like the car can't get the air out of the vents, even thought the fan is running on high. Really an odd problem.

What is the "blend door"? Honestly, the actual problem sounds like it might be right under the glove compartment, but that might only be because I hear the fan there. Thanks guys for the quick responses!!
