a friend who owns a black on black, 93 atx started having some problems a couple weeks ago. i helped him do a 60k about 3 years ago. he said it started going dead while driving, but acted like it was out of gas. it would keep running, and the more he pushed the gas pedal, the more it slowed down and had no power. it kept going dead, but he eventually got it home. i went over last week and took it for a short drive. it seemed to run fine, but it kept having a "surge" like symtom that it would like want to pull forward when you are stopped at a red light, but the engine sounded like it was going to cut off, and then pick back up. the CEL was on, so i pulled the codes out of it. it was full!!! 338, 121, 221, 112,522, 122, 222, just many different codes, etc. seemed like everything was wrong. well i figured that the water pump had went south and was leaking down on the CPS and cooking it. so i took the front covers off, and smart me forgot i had made a way for any coolant leak out of the water pump to be diverted away from the sensor. on top of that the pump was dry and the sensor was dry and looked outstanding. so i couldnt get the timing marks lined up correct, so i thought it may be out of time. took the belt off and have it retimed correctly now, but thought i would get some ideas or opinions from anyone who wanted to chime in and see what others though on it before i button it up. i dont have it back together yet, so i can still access everything. any ideas????
thanks all....:thankyou:

Check the belt tensioner. If you put it back together right at the 60k(not saying you didn't) then it may have jumped time. If everything thing else on the front looks good, I would put it together, clear the codes and fire it up again and see if it throws anymore codes. If it was out of time, that would cause it to act goofy. Since you got that straightned up, it might be taken care of.

338 = not on my list
121 = tp sensor out of range
221 = not on my list
112 = act out of range
522 = vehicle in gear during test
122 = tp sensor below minimum voltage
222 = not on my list

my guess is you miscounted some of the codes.

the symptoms you describe are consistent with a bad tps, so I would change that asap and reset codes, and see what happens after that.

i would say it was right. it's run fine for 3 years.

yeah my codes are off . i read them last week and threw the paper away. hard to remeber which ones exactly. the main one was for the crank sensor, thats what led me to check there first. but it was many different codes, i looked them all up, but went back to the crank sensor first. so we're just checking a few things....

Just a suggestion.
The only reason I suggested checking the tensioner is you said it happened suddenly and the timing marks weren't lined up and you had to do it again. If the timing had gone ******** it would cause driveability issues like cutting out and the car would act funny while the ecu tries to compensate timing.

According to my handy-dandy chilton:
338-ECT lower than expected
221-spark timing error
222-loss of IDM signal(right side-dual plug)
