GH vs Ortiz

I'm going to be purchasing my first tune package soon and can't decide which tuner I want to use.

I plan to keep the car mostly stock at least for the next 33k miles when the warranty runs out.

The highest octane available in my area is 91 so AO tune doesn't seem like it would do much for me since I would never use any other octane.

Any pros and cons to using Ortiz Vs Gearhead?

Really depends on your goals really. Gh for daily driving and smoothness. Ortiz for lots of later add ons.

I've tried all the big ones but bcb. I've been on gearhead for two years now. Great for daily driving, great for going to the track every weekend. Great logo too. AJPTurbo was also very good.

Im ajp tuned and love it. Not sure on his turnaround for new customers. He has a lot of stuff going on in his life right now and tuning is just his side job but he is probably the best.

For daily driving, I never found anything even close to Gearhead as far as overall. Ajp did get more hp out of it but he didn't make it any more of a daily driver. Ajp was also almost impossible to reach for almost 3 months for a revision. Nothing against him as it is a side business and he has a lot going on.

As far as Ortiz, they seem to be very heavy into the cutting edge and are very active on this forum. Ive never used them but haven't seen much besides positive results and feedback.

Overall I'd say that it depends on what you want to do.
If you ask anyone about Gearhead tuned transmission differences, they will tell you it's full of awesomeness.

If you ask most whose tune they use to race in Mexico, it's probably AJP.

Hopefully some Ortiz tuned people chime in.

I have GH and Unleashed tunes. I was a little worried that the GHAO tune doesn't need to be revised for methanol, but the HP between tunes is identical. Shifting with GH is very nice like others have said.

I may try GH soon as i think ill start dailying my sho again near summer. I put 60k miles on it in 8 months of driving in 2018, about at 80k or so now last time i looked. Its been a my garage sho piece since i have a company car

Ortiz and enjoy the tune. Its has woken up the car but I haven't tried any others.

What makes GH a great daily driver tune? I only had it a week before I had to replace my engine and have left it stock since so I never got used to the tune.

Also have there been any big changes to either tune since 2019?

Few people i know personally have it and ive driven on with a GH tune and its more smooth power and you really cant feel the shifts somehow. Ajp turbo shifts are pretty firm but not violent. Lms tune i had, 1-2 shift i thought the axel broke. Not sure about bama or ortiz tune for daily smoothness

Pure speculation that I have an LMS tune based on other parts. I hope to get a programmer soon to hook up and check what the strategy code says and maybe get more info. However, this lines up with my shifts. It would make a **** of a bang and then lose traction. Bad enough that after a hard launch and full pull, my Traction Control, etc would disable and I would have to restart the car. Since I added the AD mounts, that issue is 100 times better. Cannot imagine how much of a difference the GH tune will make with the AD mounts.

It was fun when the advance trac would fail because of it. My fronts were bald and my rears were almost bald. After a couple hard pulls it would do om command burnouts with my lms tune. Only good part about it. It would give weird fuel readings also. Im sure it didnt help the other factors that blew my engine

It isnt specluation. V11 for LMS was a nightmare and numerous people reported here that it felt like their transmissions were going to break because of how dog shit the tune was. Numerous threads here over hundreds of pages just talking about that.

Stay away from lms. They dont care. Yea i have their parts on my car still and a few tunes i no longer use. In late 2017, if you asked the most of the big members on here lms was the answer for a tune. People figured them out shortly after. I have emails from their tuner guy saying the tune was e85 safe. Ran a full tank without any other research and now i have a new engine...
