I am a happy new owner of a 2011 Taurus SHO. :woo-hoo:
I am very happy with the comfort, performance and technology of my new car. However, I am having a big issue with the trunk release. I am aware that the trunk can be opened in the following ways:

1) Push the trunk release button on the passenger side of the dash
2) Using the remote, press the trunk release twice
3) Using the keyless entry panel, enter code and trunk release code

However, is there really no 'manual' release at the end of the car? Can't I just walk up to an unlocked car without keys and open the trunk? I called Ford customer service, and they said, "no". This is a major pain in the butt.

I would pay for an after market solution, if anyone knows of one.

Thanks for any help. :thankyou:

If you have the Intellkey - push button start there is a release button above the license plate. You have to have the key in your pocket to work though.

You may have to squat down to see the push button though. You can feel for it as Redcandy said. Surprised Ford didn't tell ya that.

Thank you everyone for the quick reply.
I never thought of looking that low!
What an odd spot to put the trunk release.
Good thing the trunk doesn't automatically pop open, otherwise I'd get smacked in the chin every time I bent down to open it:nut::nut:

I also signed up for SHOPOWER. Thanks for the tip.

Yep, I had no idea about the button until someone here mentioned it. Where in Ontario is everyone from?

"Why the **** didn't anyone from my dealer tell me about this when I bought it?"

Maybe the dealer assumes people read their owners manuals. :naughty: There's actually a lot of good stuff in there (although I don't remember reading about the AdvanceTrac sport mode in there).

I actually read the owner's manual...always do, and usually read directions. Guess it's a holdover from my youth when I did plastic models and learned early that it's best to follow the directions instead of trying to "wing" it. I'm pretty sure that not reading direction in a "guy thing" sorta like any guy worth his salt would never stop to ask directions.

There's another thread where a fellow member explained about the sport mode as one way of determining if an SHO has the performance package. With the PP, if you press the TCS Off button twice quickly it will enable the sport mode which apparently disables the TCS and allows the driver a bit more excitement before engaging the AdvanceTrac, as opposed to a single press of the TCS off button which just disables the TCS but the AdvanceTrac remains fully aware. As I was reading about this in the owner's manual this morning, there's another mode on the PP cars. If you press and hole the TCS Off button for 5 seconds it will enter track mode and completely disable the TCS and the AdvanceTrac on the car.

Well, I have the license plate mounted trunk release but cannot figure out how to make it work. I have intellikey but not with remote start...does that make a difference? 2010SHO

You do not need remote start for the trunk release button to work. With the Intellikey in on your person you should be able to just press the button above the license plate and it should release the trunk.

Does the button on the dash work so you can confirm the power trunk feature does work? Do you have an owner's manual to confirm you're pressing in the correct location?

You might want to confirm you're not in valet mode.

Yes, the interior trunk release works fine. I will check to see if I might be in valet mode. Maybe the button is just defective. Thanks!

I think Ford put it that low because it was supposed to be a button you could use your foot to press if you had your hands full with groceries or what not. The only problem is you still need a hand to lift the trunk open, so I'm not sure where the logic is behind it lol.
