For all the trouble, why not get a pair of custom springs made? There are plenty of shops that do this.

The front strut mounts are not interchangeable between Gen 2 and Gen 3 springs. The Gen 2 springs are a different top coil diameter than the Gen 3 springs, and the spring mounting surface is angled on a Gen 3 mount, whereas the Gen 2 mount is not angled. If you take a look at the picture Paul posted, you'll notice the Gen 3 spring perch is angled, which is why the strut mount is angled, so the spring sits square upon assembly.

FWIW I have a set of GEN III SARC struts (all four corners) in my 94 GEN II and I know for a fact that I swapped the mounting plate and bearing from my GEN II springs to the GEN III set up. It can be done. I was the kid that could make the round peg fit in the square hole.

Dropping the strut will definitely help out there. Should be able to get 1/2" without a problem, just make sure the bottom of the strut doesn't get too close to the CV joint boot.

Great then. I have SARC's on all four corners of my 93. Kirk and I installed them last October. We ended up using the Gen 3 front mount, because it is the correct one for the spring/strut application. Again, refer to the pics Paul posted of the struts, and the angle of the spring perch on the G3 strut. You need the G3 strut mount to put the spring in a proper mounting angle, and also because the topmost coil on the G3 spring doesn't fit the G2 mount correctly. I redrilled my strut towers to accomodate the Gen 3 mount, and everything worked out just fine. Three months and about 5k miles, and no issues.

Glad your setup worked out for you though!:thumb:

does any one know the spring rate difference between the genII and III springs? for both stock and eibach?

I still have my genII eibach/kyb setup from when by 94 wagon was totled. so i might be able to use the struts and springs with gen3 mointing plates?

So what are the people doing who swap the SHO 6 into the 3rd gen? Can you bolt the 3rd gen strut onto the nuckle from the 2nd gen subframe?

Use the entire 2nd Gen suspension system. That's what I intend to do when I start my V6 into Gen III swap here in the next couple weeks.

Are you still going to go with the MTX?

Using a donor car or scavenging parts?

Yep - Donor car. I found one locally that runs and comes with a spare engine.

The thing that I'm worried about is the ABS system. The OBD-II uses the ABS input to determine vehicle speed. I'm not sure how the Gen II brake system is setup - if it even has ABS. I'm going to have to do some head scratching on that.

ABS sensors work the same.

You will have to use the GEN III ABS system. The GEN II uses a cable from the tranny to drive the speedometer, of course the GEN III uses the ABS system. So the two systems are incompatable in that regards. The actaull wheel speed sensors for the ABS will be interchangable if the connectors are the same. If they are not you can possibly do one of two things. I mannaged to just dissasemble many of the plugs and swap them out as the internal locking pins were the same or you may just have to swap the entire abs sensor out. The other issue that may come up will be if the GEN II has more teeth on the ABS tone ring and how that may affect the speed output to the ABS. Paul might be able to confirm if this is true and if it will affect the system.

I haven't had ABS since I've owned the car... :frown:

Good luck with everything you do!
