Has any one had experience fixing these radios ? They seem to all develop sound problems and volume problems. I have 3 gen 1 radios sitting here that are all broke :(

I have a gen 2 in my garage, thats why the person I bought mine from had aftermarket stuff too. :) I wish I knew of a fix though, I'm very tight on cash and I need to put some money into my beast. ;)

well when I got the s/c sho from Marc, the radio was behaving exactly like my ex. 90 model. Volume was REAL low. SO I bought an amp (OEM) off ebay. Worked great on first install (backing my theory about the amps). Then, some days it would do great, other days it would operate with real low volume again. SO I put in an aftermarket unit and bypassed the amps. :D
So, I have no idea if my head units are bad or my amps...

The Gen1 radio SUCKS! When the volume button in my 89 went south I removed the radio and had it repaired. It IS possible to repair these. It worked for about 1 year and it went bad again. Since I liked the stock radio I decided to give it another chance. I theorized it was my particular radio so I bought the exact same model used at a used car parts shop. 2 years later the volume button went out in that radio too!

Don't be hardheaded like me. When your gen I radio goes out. Proceed to remove it from the vehicle and throw it as far as you can :)

Humm, I think you are right. It has to be that crappy volume button. But how to repair it is the question ?
