I just paid $220 to have my SHO ABS pump refurbished by Module Repair Pros in Los Angeles. As far as I know, they are the only ones in the general area that have this service, but there is a caveat… it is OFF MENU.

Here’s the deal:

You log on to their website and purchase a repair package. You enter the year, make and model of your car, and “BUY” the package…

Wait…there’s no Taurus listed

So I call, and speak to Gino, the head tech (he sounds like he has a Russian or slavic (maybe Ukranian?) accent who told me) - “Yeah, we don’t get a lot of calls for that type of module, so we don’t list it as an option, but we can fix it for you for $200 ($20 to ship it back to me).”

So I pack up the ABS module, print my info, the DTC codes that show up, and ship to their address (WITHOUT buying a ‘repair package’ and cross my fingers).

I get a call a few days later, Gino tells me that he can refurb the module but that won’t fix my problem because they have to do with the VSS and computer issue, not pump. I told him I swapped in a ‘98 ABS module and the car drives fine, just refurb the module so I can have a working spare when it breaks again.

One week later, I get the bill emailed to me, I pay by Paypal and hope my module ships today. Pretty painless. Hopefully the module will be “good as new” when I get it back (I won’t know until I go to use it when this one fails).

Their website: modulerepairpro.com

So far, HIGHLY recommended!

Gen3 ‘99 SHO ABS module returned today…pics

Here are pics of my refurbed ABS module

Helpful tip: DO NOT pack auto parts with tiny orifices (holes) in styrofoam containers no matter how convenient. The tiny styrofoam beads will scrape off and lodge themselves in ALL crevices and ports and possibly cause a blockage of a very critical passage/function. I’ve circled in yellow the beads I’ve had to clean out before packing away the refurbed part.

Also, take note of the ABS plug landing gasket. There is a pin that doesn’t line up with a hole (or rather vice versa, a gasket hold that is located where a pin is not to go through it) that MAY cause a seating issue when you plug the cable in after you install the ABS module. BE SURE to flatten the red gasket to eliminate possible intermittent bad connections.

Finally, I’m posting the firm’s info and brochure because THEY REPAIR MORE THAN ABS MODULES! They can also repair EATC modules too! Some engine ECU’s and instrument clusters as well. Best to call Gino and ask if they can do yours, and follow the procedure I posted above. I think you’ll be very satisfied (YMMV)!

Notice the styrofoam packing beads from my ship to container hiding in the line orifice hole...

Notice the red gasket pin hole not lining up with the pin that appears to be lined up on the pin to the right of the bolt hole. There is a wrinkle in the gasket. Used the needle probe to flatten it down and a bunch of Q-Tips to clean out the grit as much as I could

Wonder if they do EEC-IV?
Go to their website first and see if the car w/ the EEC-IV is listed in their database. If it is, you can straight up buy the repair package and ship your unit to them. If the make/model/yr is NOT listed, DON'T GIVE UP...give Gino a call and ASK him if he can fix it, and based on his knowledge and experience, I'd bet money he COULD fix it, he just didn't have the settings pre-set in the website due to volume requests.

Wonder if they do EEC-IV?

If it's the fairly common issue with bad electrolytic capacitors they should have no problem fixing it. Or, someone local to you with decent soldering skills and the ability to identify and source the proper parts from DigiKey or Mouser should also be able to fix it.
