I was trying to launch the car around 2,000-3,000 RPM when I heard a very loud popping noise. Right after that happened, the car stopped moving under its own power.

The engine still starts and runs normally. It revs like normal in Park and Neutral, but when I put it into Drive or Reverse, it feels like it’s just in Neutral. Pressing the gas pedal doesn’t make the car move or accelerate but it does make a whiring noise. It shifts into gear without any unusual noises, grinding, or clunking. The car rolls normally when it’s in Neutral.

There are no warning lights, no check engine light, and I don’t see any fluid leaks underneath the car.

Any insights from you guys would be helpful as I’m trying to figure what I could look at first

If you snapped a CV you’d still have three, and if you popped the PTU you’d still have front wheels and limp mode still lets you crawl. Unfortunatly, sounds like you smoked the trans.

I’m assuming you tried manually shifting to different gears and taking off in them? If not, I believe it’s 1-3-R in one so try leaving in second. If you can, I’d guess it’s the 1-3-R snap ring.

Broken axle would likely make a ruckus, but energy will flow the path of least resistance. If a front axle broke could leave you stranded like a bad transmission. But would expect some pretty fun noises with a busted axle...
