Please excuse for my ignorance... that is the line that is next to the fuel filter?

Actually, no I haven't replaced the MAF with another one... Maybe we can add that to the list of swaps between SHO's. MAF's, fuel pump/sending unit, and the fuel pressure regulator... We'll see...
thanks...

Vice grip your fuel return line and I bet your car runs great.

When I had the same exact problem you are dealing with I cut the access panel to my fuel pump under the rear seat because I was tired of replacing the pump. I vise gripped the smaller of the 2 lines and started the car ( I noticed a big change immediately)and drove it up and down my street and it ran like a bat outtahell because I had plenty of solid fuel pressure and the return was blocked from me losing pressure,,,needless to say the MAF was returning my fuel pressure to the tank apparently to soon , when the car needed the pressure most it was being returned...You said you cleaned the MAF ,but did you swap it out with another one???????

I got a 73mm, mine wont do you any good... lol :)

But like I said last night... you did NOT have this problem before you swapped the pump. I say its either the pump, or a bad install of it somehow. (loose hose or something) We tested your other pump a month ago, and it held pressure just fine, your problem was then that it was just a little low. Now like you said.. if its not running, your pressure is 0 when u turn the key. It didn't do that before, and since then I would highly doubt that your regulator just 'went out'

I agree x2... Well, hopefully we find a bad install or loose hose or something. I am thinking about doing the vise grip thing on the return line... just to see what happens.

Well, I can tell ya, I went to see my buddies that work at Advance Auto, one of them helped me replace my struts. We did that, unplugged the MAF and cleaned it, and no change. So the MAF sensor is still good. I had forgotten about that.

You can rule out a MAF Sensor by unplugging it. If the car runs better when unplugged, replace your MAF.

Boat I would recheck the pump install. It was late and everybody was tried too. I hope we can find the source of the problem. Oh and your SHO has *** lol

Ccrm?????????......

I know that when I put my first fp in I hit the retainer ring so hard the strainer fell off but it did not hurt the performance any, I noticed this when I changed the pump the 2nd time but if you did not have this problem before it all happened I bet your little hose is not correct on the fuel pump, you know the one that is 2-3 " long on the pump unit in the tank?

Ya know, I got thinking about that little hose in the tank. I remembered that this morning. has got me going "hmmm"... I am not sure what I did with the rest of the stuff from the new pump that came in the box, I hope I didn't throw that away. If I did any idea what size diameter that rubber hose is that is on inside of the tank? I hope that is all it is.

I don't own a pair of vise grips yet. I may borrow a pair from work and try it. Or just go to Harbor Freight and get some.

Goodness, I hope it is not the CCRM.

Ccrm?????????......

If it was the CCRM you wouldn't hear the pump... but you do... remember me telling you about that pink / black wire? you could put a meter on it, and see if it have 12v when u turn the key if u are convinced it is... but its not.. lol :) otherwise it wouldn't run at all... ;)

Cool. Do you think we could get started early on Saturday morning, dropping the tank, and my front 60k at Doug's? Like 10am or so?

To add to the list of symptoms to help isolate what this could be.

When the SHO gets up to operating temp and I get where ever it is a I am going and I shut the car off for like 15 minutes to an hour or so, I come out to start it and go, and when I start the SHO it misses stumbles for gas and idles really rough.

Well last night it was doing that, but it was running good enough to get me to Harbor Freight, I am there for like 30min picking up some tools to work on the SHO, I come out to start it and it would not stay running for longer than 15-30 seconds and would die. Luckly I had some friends that were basically down the street to come get me. So I left the car sit and get cold, I came back, primed the fuel pump a few times and it started and stayed running (it was running smooth, once it was running) and I made it home.

Something else I noticed, I have heard kind of a loud whining, not sure if it is the fuel pump, almost sounds like it is. To me if it was a VAPOR LOCK of why it wouldn't stay running, would make sense. Just more clues to figure out the culprit.

We have replaced the plugs and wires, and the white evaporator piece on the gas tank, and cleaned and removed the MAF, and no change, still runs the same.

I was just wondering if any of these symptoms point to anything specifically? Any further ideas of more specifically where to start? I already plan to drop the tank, hopefully today, and check our install of the pump and make sure everything is good. Then to possibly swap fuel pumps, then fuel pressure regulators.

Thank you for all the help so far... hopefully my SHO is running better by the end of the day and/or we find the culprit of the fuel problem.

Well... after inspecting the pump... one of the "gaskets" between the fuel pump, and the check valve, was not seated properly. Fixed that problem, put the pump back in, and still 0 psi at the rail.. still funny starting issues. I got another regulator and am in the process of swapping it out. Anyone got any other ideas here? Figured I would post this before we got it finished incase someone comes up with an idea while we are working on it.

Thanks in advance.

Well... the regulator isn't the issue apparently... some how we're still getting air in the system... not really sure how or why.. maybe those gaskets are just old possibly?

Go back to OLD SCHOOL methods

Your fuel is getting returned to the gas tank.

Did you close the return line off yet like I SAID and run your car ????

Shit you can see if you got good pressure by removing the hose to your fuel filter closest to the tank and sticking it in a empty 2 liter plastic bottle and turn the key on without starting the car!

You will know if you have good pressure from the pump!

Ill bet it is an electrical problem...sensor ?????

Just trying to help you

How about not enough gas in the tank... :) I fixed it the first time like I thought I did... just funny tho.. kinda... fustrating... lol here we replaced the schrader vavle for a spare I had, then the regulator... all to find out we just needed a little more gas in the tank.. :)

Here's where the first install was wrong... seen it as soon as I pulled it out.. ;)
