So sometimes my fuel pump likes to just not turn on for no reason. The other night the car shut off while driving twice, then took about 3 mins to start. When I turn the key to prime the pump you can hear that its not turning on.. Once you can hear it the car starts right up. It doesn't shut off while driving anymore, but sometimes when I shut the car off, it'll take a couple mins before I can hear the pump turn back on while I'm priming it. Once running, the car works perfectly, no loss of power, and the pressure is right where it should be.

Any ideas?

Is it the original pump? It could be the pump going out, it could be the connector ontop of the pump - or it could be the relay in your CCRM getting old and not working well anymore.

Fuel pump is probably about 3 years old. Inertia switch is where it should be. It doesn't seem like the pump is the problem.

The relay is the little box that sits ontop of the radiator right? If so, I've got a spare on the 3.2 harness in my garage.

Im only presistant because i had a car do the same exact thing....

like Doug said, it could be a connection problem as well.

Yea, I whacked the inertia switch, watched the button come up, then pushed it back down. Same thing has been happening.

:thumb: just checking.... those things can be tricky sometimes....

FWIW, if you ground the bottom right pin on the EEC test plug..

you can test the fuel pump....

have you pulled any codes off the car?

Yea, only a 565, I found an unplugged sensor going into a lil canister. No codes since that.

Is the relay box that thing that sits on the radiator with a bunch of wires and 1 bolt going through it?

Yes thats the IRCM (intergrated relay control module)

you could swap one over... just make sure that the codes are the same... i cant recall the code for the D4U1 computer....

Yes, that is the CCRM - however they are not the same from a ATX to an MTX. Sometimes if you tap the top of it it will cause the relay to free up.

I think thats what it is. Mine looks old and beat up, plus I would think if the fuel pump itself was on its way out, the car wouldn't have perfect fuel pressure, and it wouldnt have the power it does.
