Replacing the thermostat. Shouldnt be a big deal. First attempt: uncanny supergenius autozone employees sell me the wrong t stat. I dont realize this until I have everything assembled and have struggled for an hour trying to get the thing to fit. Napa...much better: I hhave the right part. This time its gonna take me twenty minutes top. I have installed the tstat and am retightening the nuts that hold on the short metal tube between the tstat and upper radiator hose. I must have over torqued the bottom nut because I snapped off the stud that the bolt threads on to. After I finished cursing my own incompetence I began looking for solutions. Do I have to pull out the whole unit that the studs protrude from or what? Anyone have any suggestions or even know if the studs are replaceable? I am beyond irritated with this particular minor repair at this point.

I sprayed wd-40 on mine and used a small needle nose vice grip to turn it out. As you know the space is quite tight, so you won't get much movement before you have to reset the vice grip. It was a long and tedious process, but it worked. Hopefully someone else has a better method. Good luck.

Yeah, I had the same thing happen to me with the same stud headbang . The vice grips is a great idea, I used regular needle nose pliers and managed to make my knuckles bleed...

The worst part is getting it started; but even when it is "free", you will most likely still need the plyers/vice grip. I was never able to turn mine by hand until it was almost out.

Remember, SHO owners are masochists by definition. :)
