Fall Run - Oct 18th - 19th Review

I thought someone would've beat me to it by now, but I guess not. While
we were told to keep the speeding tickets a secret, somehow it got out.
lol We didn't want to deter anyone from going to future runs...but it's
all good. Everyone said it was worth it. I'll tell the story below.

We started the run around 11am between Kerville & Bandera, Texas. (We
were slightly confused as to the starting point, but it turned out okay)
The average speed was a little bit lower than normal, but still
extremely fun. Kerby's isn't as suicidal as Sergio and doesn't know the
roads as well is what I think he said. Sergio has a quaife too, so he's
got at least one up on Kerby. :)

We found some good roads and had a lot of fun. We pulled into a gas
station in Rockport (I think that was the name of the town) and noticed
a burning smell. Someone saw a little black smoke from under Dale's
hood and found that his A/C compressor had locked up and caught the belt
on fire while breaking it. Murph poured some bottled water on it and
killed the fire. We all got some lunch in town then Tony and Dale went
at it trying to remove the A/C clutch and/or pulley, and put on a bypass
belt.

While they were doing that, 5 SHOs and 1 SuperCoup Thunderbird decided
to make a loop and pickup Dale, Tony & Murph (and whoever else was left)
on the way back through. I must say that the loop we took was THE best
part of the entire run. That last leg was four lanes and beautiful
scenery flying by at 110-140mph. Great high-speed twisties!

Someone came past Kerby and set a new pace for this part o the run, when
all of the sudden we flew by a truck on a turn at about 110mph. The
truck SLAMMED on his brakes, but we didn't see him turn around. Didn't
know if it was a cop or not. So we decided to keep on movin'. Found
the straight stretch where we normally drag race, but didn't stop,
because not everyone was with us. The Thunderbird SC said he pegged his
145mph speedo and MikeD and I were past 140. We held that speed for
quite a few miles until we came upon a truck near a wide sweeping turn.
We slowed to 85 mph to match the truck's speed. Upon following the
truck for 5 seconds, a cop comes up on us and then turns around behind
us. He followed us with his lights on and pulled all of us over, accept
the truck in front...go figure.

Don says his Valentine One never went off, so they didn't REALLY clock
us. The first cop simply radioed the cops in town and he came out and
found us behidn the truck doing 85, but claimed he clocked the first and
last cars at 98 & 92mph. So he gave all 6 guys tickets for 92 in a
70mph zone. Not too bad. $165 each.

The cop that came up to the T-bird said, "We clocked the first car at 98
and the last at 92, but we know y'all were takin' those turns well in
excess of 100mph. Hope you boys had fun!" And the T-bird's reply was,
"YES WE DID!" It was pretty funny hearing about it later. The cops
were actually pretty nice and tried to get it taken care of pretty
quick. The cop that originally saw us was an older guy (a good'ol boy)
and he finally came up and parked behind us after we'd been pulled over
for 5-10 minutes. We left him WAY behind. No way he was catchin' up
with us.

Anyway, that stretch of road was by far the best part of the run. While
it's a shame EVERYONE didn't get to share the experience, I'm sure the
ones that didn't share the experience are quite glad they aren't
shelling out $165 on a ticket as well. :)

Afterwords, we went back into town and thought we were waiting on Tony,
Murph and Dale to get back from taking the same loop we did, but they
had already headed back to the hotel. So we did the same. We took the
shortest route to the highway and headed back. On the way back I got
some good footage from inside MikeD's car while racing the Super Coupe.
It was a dead even race, more than one time. We were impressed.
MikeD's last dyno numbers were 189hp and 191 ft-lbs of torque. So a
Super Coupe with aftermarket exhaust is an even match with a SHO that
has 189 hp to the wheels. Not bad! The super coupes put out 230hp and
330ft-bls of torque, stock. I don't know how much to the wheels. This
one weighed in at 3600 lbs roughly. T'was a good race and lots of fun.
I weighted down MikeD's car a little as well, since the super coupe
didn't have anyone but the driver in it. I'm sure Mike's sub is heavy
as well...so the weight was a little more even than normal.

We hooked a porche boxster who did a "fly-by" instead of racing MikeD.
As he flew by, I think I have video where MikeD pulled in behind him and
matched his speed in NO TIME FLAT! Then the porche slowed down and
moved over. I don't think he wanted his porche to get beat by an old
Taurus. hehehe

Later that night we all went to the Riverwalk and had dinner at Rio Rio,
I think it was called. It was a lot of fun. We then went back to the
hotel after making *** jokes about Tony, and Tony decided to prove he
wasn't *** by going to Allstars. lol A few of the guys went to
Allstars, accompanied by some of their wives and girlfriends who
reportedly had a blast. I stayed at the hotel, so I wouldn't know
firsthand.

Oh, I almost forgot. On the way back from the Riverwalk, Tony reved
beside a Jetta, then he said, "Nah, I'm not gonna' race him." lol I
said, "You're just teasin' the guy! Come on! His girlfriend's with him
too, should be fun." After convincing Tony to go for it, we found an
open stretch on the highway, and let the Jetta start first. Tony didn't
even downshift hardly, and didn't give it full throttle either, because
he didn't want the torque steer to drive him into the wall on our left
side. We still came blasting by the Jetta pretty easily and he gave us
a thumbs up.

The next day Sergio showed up in his Turbo Trans Am with the Grand
National motor in it to, and I quote, "Beat some Fords". LOL He had a
couple friends with him, one of which was a big Turbo Trans Am guy who
has a car in Houston with 600 rwhp apparently! He rode along with
Sergio. We got some decent footage of those races, but Tony and Sergio
never REALLY got a good race in. We have one video that's decent which
shows Tony jumping Sergio off the line by half a car or so, then pulling
hard after that. Sergio couldn't recover from the bad launch. Then
again, one time Sergio jumped Tony and Tony didn't catch up before they
had to slow down. It was interesting! We got some decent footage.
They didn't get to race on top end, but maybe next time! Sergio's
friend says he wants to bring his Turbo Trans Am out next time to race
Tony and maybe go on the run with us. That should be fun.

After that we all headed back home up I35. Most of us got back home
about 3 1/2 hours later, so we made good time, dispite idiots blocking
the passing lane constantly. I may have gotten some video of Tony
playing with a Z4 convertible with some "youngin's" in it...but never
really got to run them legitimately. I also think they didn't wanna'
get beat by a Taurus in a brand new BMW. :)

And finally, on 360 going back to Tony's house, we raced Don a couple of
times. He almost had us the first time until Tony said, "Okay, I'll
give it more than 1/4 throttle." hehehe Then the second time we left
Don behind pretty bad. I have this on video as well. Tony should be
uploading all that stuff sometime soon for us to view. Or at least he
should be e-mailing them to me so I can edit them and post them on my
website or somethin'. Should be fun!

All-in-all, the run was a blast! He had a lot of fun in our small group
and everyone enjoyed themselves quite a bit. Can't wait till the next
one, and it was great meeting all the new people! Hopefully, some of
them will be able to join us on the Winter Run!
