Hey all,

I'm new to this forum and car ownership in general. I have a 2013 SHO that I purchased in January as a Certified Pre-Owned with 80,000.

Within a month of having of it, the fuel pump went out(towing reimbursed and replaced for free).

Earlier this month I took it in for an oil change and they Quoted me $1000 for preventative maintenance and an oil leak in the turbo. They replaced the rear toe links and the right turbo. The included warranty covered everything with a $100 deductible.

Now my warranty is going to expire as soon as I put 1000 more miles on it. I contacted the dealership and they recommended the following:

Here is the best option for you on the SHO.

84/140k Premiumcare 100 deductible= 2960.00 + tax

The 7years is from the original in-service date of 07/19/13 and miles are total on the odometer.

or if you dont think you'll have it that long,

72/125k Premiumcare 100 deductible=2225.00+ tax

Given that I purchased the car for just under 19,000, do you believe that this may be worth it for me to buy the extended warranty? What would you fine people recommend?

Much Appreciated,

I think it would be worth it to buy the best Premiumcare you can get, personally. And buy it online from LombardsFordWarrantys.com or FloodFordESP.com etc to realize savings over your local dealership pricing. Online you can get Premiumcare for 2 years additional, Extracare for 4 years additional, and Basecare for 5 years additional. I don't think this factors in CPO though, so you might do even better.

Interesting. I'm definitely glad that I asked here. I didn't even know that online retailers were out there selling the extended warranties. I'll have to give them a call and see if the inspection will be required (the dealership said that this would not be the case if purchased before the current warranty ended)

personally ive had very little luck with my warranty. It really depends on how much you trust the dealer. If you have a great dealer who wants to be sure the car is covered by the warranty go ahead, but so far ive dumped $400 in diagnostics because of stuff not covered by my BUMPER TO BUMPER extended warranty. Blamed on impact damage, or physical damage etc (any of which occurred before I bought the car). Im taking my car to a third dealer next week, and if my warranty doesn't cover me im going to cancel it.

So far Anderson(Local ford dealer) has done a very good job of taking care of things. They also have a good service reputation in the Lincoln area.

If you know your car has never been wrecked, and all your service has been dealer performed you are probably OK. Find out how much your Deductible is.

I vote for the warranty and you are definitely on the right track by going with the Ford backed warranty vs. aftermarket.

If I go for the cheaper online version of the Premiumcare, is there any difference in who determines if a warranty claim is approved or not? Would the online dealer be responsible for determining if you are covered, then allow the local car dealer to preform the work?

AFAIK, initial determination is always by the dealer performing the work. Generally, the service manager of the dealer performing the work can make a determination. They base the determination on the likelihood that Ford will reimburse the dealer. Some, more extensive things require the approval by Ford field reps. In extreme cases pictures are taken and sent to Ford Corp.

I don't believe the dealership that sells the policy or even the dealership that sold the vehicle ever come into play. Unless of course any of them are one in the same as the dealer performing the work.

If you buy warranty, be sure to get the Ford one, as it actually covers stuff. The aftermarket warranties have so many exclusions that not much is actually covered as described above.

The $2200-2900 is less than the cost of one real problem, so if you believe that you will go the next 5-7 years without any real problems, then skip the warranty. Otherwise buy it pronto before the current one expires. The Ford rules are that you can buy extended Ford warranties anytime without the inspection as long as you currently have the same kind of warranty protection in place - so before the current warranty expires, no inspection required, after the current warranty expires inspection would be required.

Get the online quote and take it to your dealer that you like and tell them to match it or you will buy it online. They will match it.

Definitely planning on it. Just sent a quote I found for $2005 back to the dealership finance guy.

As to whether or not I believe that I can go 4-5 years without a real problem, I was thinking that you guys would have insight onto that as well. I figure that you must know just about all there is to know about what usually goes wrong with a SHO.

I think the probability of going 4-5 years without needing the warranty is not very high. I'm sure that plenty of people have had zero problem, but that has not been my experience.

So far my car has had the rain sensor, one parking sensor, touch panel for the keyless and both valve cover gaskets/plug well seals replaced. Those added up probably would total half the cost of the warranty and I've only had the car about 3 months. I am currently trying to solve/have solved a stutter problem that I'm certain will not have a cheap solution.

I recommend the warranty.

don't quote me, but the standard "list price" for a Ford/Lincoln warranty that the dealer will show you is usually just about double what the actual cost to the dealer is. Now some dealerships have rules about the lowest gross they will accept, etc. but most of them will match the online guys because the cost to the dealers is the same anywhere. Remember, you didn't hear it from me, you just heard it online from a reliable source...

I bought the 7/75k Premium Care warranty. The selling dealership matched the online price back in 2010.
You can add me to the list of those that bought the warranty and never used it.
However, I most likey will extend this warranty coverage.
I've already checked, they say just to buy it before 75k and any new Ford warranty will pick up and continue. But, you have to make sure you are buying the true Ford plan.
Picking up an extension can be done with 0℅ interest and payments. So, kind of like insurance, or a bet, all perspective. Like some have said, the cost is less than a turbo or two, or a PTU replacement and transmission. Some of which I would expect by 150k miles.

I have yet to believe what dealers show me on paper, Working in a medical field with a hand in billing ? I see what one is offer for cost and what another is offered and what we actually take. If you could see the markup on medical testing it would blow you mind. If my wife gets a test done and the lab says this is your portion of the cost I go back to them and tell them the price I will pay. Most likely medicare +5% they will take it.

So my question is, I have a 2015 SHO with 10,000 miles and I bought an extended warranty bumper to bumper (5year 60,000 miles) at the dealership for just over $2000. Can I get a refund and buy a better plan online?

yes.

better yet, go to the dealer and tell them that is what you are about to do, and they will likely "rebate" you some money to avoid having to cancel the one you just bought.
