Not 98%, I’ll give you 50/50. There are proven performance gains and 1/4 mile tenths over stock air box. Is it worth the money? I’m going to say no. But when you find yourself committed to going for full bolt on...

Didn't someone say it was good for 5hp at like 5500rpm? I can't find any Dyno graph.... All I found was a reduced waste gate percentage of a few percent. Maybe I'll adjust it to 90% Bling Bling. The primary restrictions on these vehicles are the turbos themselves I believe....well that and the downpipes of course. I remember reading that the stock ford airbox and intake piping was good for around 600 crank hp.

I want to say @ridered74 did draggy tests with it. Could be wrong.

I have but not under identical circumstances. Different wheels and tires and a tweak or two to my tune.

I feel like it is a little faster with the EPP over the airaid, seems like about a tenth faster but no actual apples to apples data to back that up. The induction noise alone is worth it tho.

So I had a lot of conversations with Matt at Gearhead about this...

He said on stock turbos it’s mostly sound... you get slightly better recovery after shifts and overall easier on the turbos. But for gains? Not a whole lot.. in the 1/4 mile you will see slight improvement do to the recovery aspects...

On aftermarket turbos there is a significant improvement in overall efficiency with much better recovery and better gains.

The biggest issue with the stock setup is the Y pipe that feeds the turbos..

My only proof of any of this is the slightly lower wastegate duty’s, the smaller dip in boost on the 3rd to 4th shift, and reported .1 - .2 ET gains consistently at the track for lots of users.

Hope that helps!

Matt is the man! The Y pipe is used on so many aftermarket kits as well....makes you wonder if it's more than enough for 99/100 people.
An interesting data point I watch when comparing mods such as this is the airflow #/min. Typically you take that number x10 for your HP.

The biggest reason for me in getting it was for future turbo upgrades. I don’t have current plans to change them and I hope mine hang in there for a long time. If this helps them relax a bit for now all the better.

But, I know they don’t last forever and when one go’s they won’t be replaced with stock. So at that point I don’t want them hampered with the stock air box or my wallet with needing turbos and a very expensive intake. That’s my rationale anyway.

100% correct on the flow numbers, I don’t recall what they are or if the flow was even tested. Since I don’t have that data, I didn’t mention it :-(

Just be careful if you are pushing your stockers hard... most the time you will get lots of clues while they are dying... but occasionally the compressor starts banging around the housing causing bits of metal to get sucked into the engine.

That was a one of the considerations on my build and why I upgraded my turbos at 19K miles.

Yup I was pushing my stockers pretty hard. Went and did the ATP upgrade at about 25K miles and when I sent the stock ones back for the core charge refund, they initially denied it for this:

Cracks in both compressor housings. They said they see this ALL the time. I hadn't even thought to look at the inside when I sent them back...

well, full disclosure. I was a little upset because it felt a little dubious at first. Like, I honestly thought these were in great shape when I sent them. It took some time back and forth with them, but after speaking with George over there, to keep me somewhat happy they reluctantly decided to give me the refund. Not saying I shouldn't have looked more careful over the cores, but if it happens ALOT as they say, kinda woulda been nice to have a quick note saying "hey, check this area out before you send it". I gotta take some of the blame and I will admit, ATP came through in the end, soo....

I mean if they don’t have a disclosure some where saying that they have to be in working order then they shouldn’t have given you a hard time. All they gonna do is refurbish them and flip them anyway gotta watch with these companies
