I pray this isn't in the forum already I did search.

Your help is appreciated, Thanks

All electronics works (a/c, radio, lights, etc)
When I turn the key all the way the crank turns for a second or two but will not
start. It wants to start but does not.

Any ideas? The car has a new alternator and battery (about 3 months old)
1994 ATX w/ 150K (60k service was done at 90K)

Thank you
Alfred

check for spark...pull a wire and see if you have spark at the plug...also check for fuel at rail . does it crank at normal speed? if you are stuck and cannot figure it out pm we and i can send the flow cart from the book.

Thank you very much

Question how is this done?

Spark...get a spare plug, stick it in the end of one of your plug wires(on the engine side... not the coil side), ground it to the car and crank the engine.

Fuel, listen for fuel pump when you turn the key. Remove key, press schrader valve on fuel rail. Fuel should squirt out (have a rag handy).

There are numerous procedures for both of these, so spend half an hour searching the internet (not just this site) on how to check for spark on a gasoline engine.

Try it on a running car if you are uncertain if you are doing it right.

Just use a regular old spare spark plug... a lawnmower plug would work...don't remove any of yours for the test.

If you keep starting it , does it continue , or it dies after 2 seconds?? :braincramp:

Thank you everyone for your kindness in giving me help.

I changed the starter and the baby is back, just like normal :)

REVIEW:
All the power worked, and I could hear the fuel pump when I turned the key.
The engine would rotate for about 2 seconds but would not start (turn over).
When it started going bad (starter) the car would start after a cool down. And then finally it wouldn't start at all in a matter of two days or so.

I changed the starter and it was all good. I already had a new alternator and battery installed from a few months prior.

I'm a happy SHO owner again

Thank you all

Al
