Ok, so I was driving yesterday and my engine started making a ticking sound around 3K.. so I shut it off... (its not that bad) I have no oil light coming on at all. my brother said it sounds like its coming from the rear head but its really hard to tell. Rod bearings? tensioner? or a new set of heads? all in all I might need a new engine, i'm not sure yet. does anybody have any clues as to y if its the rod bearings I dont have an oil light on (i know the light works)

Thanks in advance guys!

Try to isolate where the sound is coming from. If you think it's the rear head, it's probibly the cam chain tensioner. The tensioner can be removed and cleaned. That's all that is usually necessary, unless the plastic pad on the end is shot. Lots of things on these engines can tick.

Injectors
Timing belt tensioner
cam chain tensioners
rod bearings

Find out where the noise is coming from, and post back. We'll help ya out.:thumb:

I got a video of the car just now... the link is below
now when you first start the car up it doesn't do anything, then after a little while it starts a random knock, then goes to a constant then back to a random knock... something is a lil fishy here and I dont think its for the best as the knock is louder than yesterday.

ok, well Its the Rod bearings... just riped the top portion of the motor up and everything is ok... drained the oil with a filter and unfortunatly there are little metal shavings... so thus rod bearings... bye bye SHO.. she just turned 108K on the clock, I got the car last year with 70K.. either i'm gonna sell the entire car or drop a 3.2 in there depending on the prices... well see what happens, I'm gonna drop the pan today if I can get the rusty y pipe off of there. i'll keep you all informed on whats going on.

Ok 3.2 it is, BUT I'm on limited funds considering i'm going back to college here pretty soon so I might just have to save for a while, build a 3.2 during the winter and by summer I'll have my baby back and her ribs will be good as new! lol anyone got a built 3.2? I'm in the market ;)

btw a bearing completly spun and it somehow meshed together to form one bearing and stuck on the connecting rod side. :(
