First I just want to clarify that I have a standard Taurus (not SHO). It is the 3.0L 12 valve V6. I am posting here because I could not find any other site for non-SHO taurus.

Anyway, the problem is I have a rough engine idle. When the engine is around 1300 RPM it smoothes out, but still has some shuttering if under a load. I have a SES light on and it sometimes flashes. In my previous car (1999 Trans Am) that was likely a misfire. The was diagnosed at a Ford service center as having a blown head gasket. So I replaced them. Neither gasket appeared blown to me. The car still displayed the same symptoms so I replaced the plugs, plug wires, pcv valve, air filter, all gaskets that I came across during the head gasket replacement.

The car still runs the same. What else could it be and is there a way to determine what code set the SES light?

Thank in advance.
Mark

Personally, with my SHO, when it runs really really lean, it has a slight miss at idle, and gets a bit raspy at about 3000rpm.

I have replaced my plugs, wires, o2s and am cleaning up the MAF, and it seems to be helping...

but pull those codes!
