ok guys as many of you know im hopefully assembling my engine on the 5th of April. I was just wondering if you guys have any tips for me to do it such as don't strip the oil pickup tube threads and make sure to use assembly **** on rod bearings and cams or w/e. speaking of that, I herd to use assembly **** on rod bearings, but not on the mains, is this true? I don't want to screw up this 4k dollar engine.:salute:

I'm in the process of rebuilding an 3.0 for the white 92, and follow all torque specs with an accurate torque wrench, put assembly **** on any rotating frictional surface (eg. rod bearings, main bearings, cam bearings, cam lobe tips) to make sure that your engine does not starve for oil untill the oil pump can get the vital engine oil to the critical components

other than that, follow the book to make sure that you do not miss any step

yeah iv got all the specs printed out from the ford service cd and 2 brand new tq wrenches, and also plan on cranking the engine before starting it first as well to bring up the oil pressure. Ill make sure to put all the assembly **** on everything, I dunno what the guy was thinking telling me nothing on mains, that didn't make sense to me at all. I also plan on driving the car for a few miles and after maybe 30 minutes of run time changing the oil to get all the assembly lub out of it. Also does anyone know if the head torquing sequence or sequences for anything and everything including girdle and such is in the ford service cd?

The girdle shouldnt be a problem, just get everything hand tight first, I dont think I even looked at the pattern for the oil pan, just kinda cris crossed it doing it by hand first, then with the tq wrench. The heads I would do as they ask too. Also check out how well your 10MM Allen head socket fits into the heads.. There is one of them that is kinda tight depending on what kinda bit you have. I almost left mine in there.. :) And another thing to do if you have time is clean all the grounds up. I put a wire wheel on my drill, and cleaned off the areas behind where the grounds were, and added a few as well. Can't hurt.

yes, clean the grounds up, I have had a problem with the ground in the valley, that ground runs your HEGO's. If you have a CEL light on with a lean o2 codes for both front and rear sensors, then good chance that, that ground is not working causing your HEGO heaters not to work.

Well, you dont even necessarly have to ground the DIS seperate, it wouldnt hurt tho, but what I did after it was all done, was get a multimeter, and check the resistance between all your grounds. If they are all coming up with 0's you shouldnt have a problem. And when you first start it, let it crank a while before rip it apart to check the timing. :)

what do you mean, it will crank a while before it actually starts for the first time?

Well.. it turned over about three times, before I gave it some gas and flooded it I believe. :) If I would have left it alone, it would have taken off just fine. :)

Yes, the heads have an important sequence, along with the girdle. The Ford service CD should have all of them. I used the Helms when I rebuilt my 3.2 - I would never think of rebuilding another motor without the factory manual.

My advice would be similar to that previously mentioned. Go slow, double check everything, and be very clean.
