I was reading sdpatts valce gap procedure and noticed that he only made reference to the egr with respect to the 3.2 litre engine. First of all what is the egr? Second of all why is it only on the 3.2l engine?

EGR = "Exhaust Gas Recirculation" (or Recovery).

Your 1992 won't have EGR unless the car was built for delivery in California. You can search the web under "Exhaust Gas Recirculation" to find out more if you're really interested.

All California MTX cars and all ATX cars came with EGR. NO 49 state MTX cars came with EGR.

note: there have been a few screwups where a 49 state MTX got EGR and a California MTX didn't. But those are flukes where somebody was asleep on the assembly line. In 99.5% of the cases the top rule applies.

Does this mean that non-California SHOs won't have the dirty intakes?

A non-EGR SHO will have cleaner intake passages than an EGR SHO, but they still tend to get some sludge in them due to the PCV system.

Don't worry about sludge too much, though. While very annoying and performance harming, it is fairly easy to clean. You could do it every 6 months if you wanted to in an afternoon.
