dome light issue

every time i wash my car, the friggen dome light / door ajar light stays on. i assume its a short some where in the driverside door. how do i fix this? (yes im sure the door is closed) i cant find a trigger switch or any buttons in the door jam. it only happens when i wash the car, and lasts a couple days. when it does happen, i have to rip the dome lights out of the roof and disconnect them, (where the sunroof switch is) and i switch the other one to off. its getting worse, this time it lasted 2 days. :cry: HeLp!

WD-40 in the latch mechanisms should do the trick. My passenger side door did the same thing. Guess things get a little gummed up when you never use em!

the switch is inside the door a pain to remove. but the wd-40 trick does work for a while i have done it a few times. i alos just removed the freakin relay under the dash on a 98 model

Funny thing... WD-40 lasts quite a long time if you soak it good (going on 45K miles since a problem in my Ranger, and it's been a year and 40K miles on the 99 since it was a problem there as well..

Spray lithium **** will last longer however as it is a tad heavier, yet not real gummy. Try that.

I took my 97 Duratec to the dealer-stealer two years ago and he replaced one mechanism for $250.
A year later the light stayed on again. I was ******.
Then someone other than the stealer told me to spray the mechanisms with WD-40.
It fixed it fine.
The stealer fixed me fine too! A lesson learned...
I've since sprayed my '99 SHO with WD-40 when needed for the "lights stay on/door ajar" fix.

thanks guys! ill try this as soon as i get home, im glad im not gonna have to rip the lights out anymore, hahaha.
