Doesn't want to keep runing
Hey all first time on the forms here. Hope I can find these forms useful as my other car ones
. I own a 93 MTX and had it for 2 months so far. It starting to have some issues.
Well the thing has been having problems starting. First thing that happened was that I backed out of the driveway and started to take off and the it just died. After that I tried turning it over and I couldn’t get it to start. Pushed it into the driveway, let it sit for a hour and it would start again. Now that isn’t all. Some times at idol the RPMs jump up and down as much as a grand. I have tried driving it and then it would show a check engine light on for a bit and would usually shut off after some driving. As of now if I move the car and then stop the car tries to die and usually a hit on the gas can get it going again.
So…I have checked the codes using the SHO Phoenix Project guide and here is what I got…
When turning the key to on:
114 (O,R) IAT sensor out of range - IAT
Memory Codes:
176 (M) Oxygen sensor not switching - system is or was lean Left or Front HO22SSS - Fuel control
177 (M) Oxygen sensor not switching - system was rich Left or Front HO2S - Fuel control
211 (M) Ignition PIP signal was erratic or missing - Ignition Systems
219 (M) SPOUT circuit failure, timing defaulted to 10 degrees - follow code 213 diagnosis
542 (O,M) Fuel pump open, bad ground or always on - - Power / Fuel Pump Circuits
When running:
114 (O,R) IAT sensor out of range - IAT
116 (O,R) Engine Coolant (ECT) sensor out of range - ECT
^^^^ The last owner broke the cap by the looks of it and tried zip tying it on so easy fix. Threw it down incase it made a difference.
538 (R) System did not receive "goose" test
^^^^ I think this one is the whole turn the steering wheel and break thing and I don’t think I did it right.
Did the balance check and it hand no problems.
Here is a list of thing that the last owner claims that he put in with in a year:
The clutch
cam shaft sensor
Thing his dad put in when he owned it. Don’t know how long ago.
belts
plugs and wires
02 sensor
crankshaft sensor.
All i did so far was change the oil and fuel filter(btw i check and the filter does not leak)
Also I don’t think this guy ever did the 60k service so if that makes a difference. At first I thought it was the fuel pump but after checking the codes I am not so sure. Hope I went into enough deatil. Any help is appreciative.
