Is the DIS module grounded by being attached to the intake end tank then to the ground strap on the bakc of the intake? Or is it attached to the intake just for cooling? Thanks

It is grounded at the intake by one of the bolts.

Are you missing one?

The 4 tiny bolts that hold the DIS module to the intake are used for ground. I've read that unscrewing even one of those bolts can screw up operation so make sure that they're nice and clean. Use a thin layer of heat sink compound on your DIS. The purpose of the heat sink compound is just to fill the voids. If you want the best heat sink compound you can get then get some "Arctic Silver" brand compound. Since that brand is conductive as well it will probably help with grounding the module.

One trick that overclockers have been using for years on CPUs to improve heat conductivity is lapping the top of the CPU and the bottom of the heat sink. If you want to add some robustness to your DIS you could be the first to have a lapped DIS module and end tank. Combine that with some Arctic Silver heat sink compound and you DIS will run cooler and have better grounding.

But most importantly, make sure all four of those bolts are good and clean!

...along with the two 12mm bolts that secure the intake crossover tube to the front and rear plenums. Make sure that the surfaces between the metal manifold parts are free of debris (and powdercoating for those that have had this done). The connection from the intake to the body of the car is through the braided ground strap that is secured under the 15mm nut on the upper passenger side intake bracket bolt. It is essential to thje proper function of the engine control system that the DIS module is adequately grounded.

I have always been missing one of the bolts that holds the DIS module to the crossover, but i have recently switched their positions. And how much of the intake support bracket should be free and clear of powdercoating, the overlap between the end tank and the bracket good enough? I will address some of the issues suggested, but if the car was running fine is it possible that it suddenly doesnt have a good ground?
