Hey guys.

I know that it will greatly differ, but I'm just wondering how many miles the stock diff. pins are usually good for?
I have 125,000 miles on my SHO, I only do burnouts when I am racing, which isn't so often.
I've had the car for a year and know nothing about the history of it.
It is probably hard to have any approximation of how long the pin will last, but if any of you could give me a recomendation of how long I can put off the quaife, that would be great. Because I'm low on the funds right now.

Thanks.

Actually Chris, it's more like BAMM!

Seriously though, every diff is different. The pins they use to hold the pinion shafts in place are really not that strong, but many hold up under the worst cases of abuse while others blow under normal driving conditions.

A key suggestion for anyone who has a stock diff is to avoid burnouts like the plague...period. I'm currently working on something that may help those with stock diffs make them last longer even under some pretty bad abuse, but only time will tell if my plan will work or not. (I have to get a guinea pig to try it on before I can say it will work or not.)

The diff pin is expected to last the life of the tranny.

You figure out the irony of that statement.

My 92 has 247,500 miles, the 95 sits at 95,000. Both are the original pins, I do almost no burnouts, not sure about the wife, but I don't think she has ever done one. At least not in our SHOs. Spinning the tires in snow or on wet pavement counts as a burnout, just not a big one. Get the Quaife soon, no more burnouts.

For those of you who can't figure this out, what he means is that the diff pin is the main cause of transaxle failure, so when the pin goes, so does the tranny.

Its not the diff pin that ever fails. The roll pin retainer that fastens the diff pin in the carrier that fails. It is a hardened roll pin the when shocked from wheel spins and other shocking experiences to the drive train will fatigue and will crack. This will allow the pin to walk out of the carrier, wear through, and rip out the whole parimeter of the case section. The replacement pin fasteners from ford are solid and would be more prone to fatigue.

That is not entirely true! The reason it fails is because of the huge **** problem in the diff.! The spider gears lock up on the diff pin (causeing the roll pins to break) and then BAMM. I have also come up with a way to beat this problem. (Well, we will see) I have 6 trannys(including 2 of my own) all over from about 2 years ago testing my idea! No problems yet! :D
