Do you have the ecu mounted so it's getting a good ground? Is it easiest to remove the glove box for access?

In your case it could have something to do with that chip that was plugged into it.

didn't do anything different from removing the stock H3Z1 and installing the D4U1 one.. swapped them twice, both times only the H3Z1 fired right up...

yes going right behind the glovebox.. takes like less than 5 mins to remove and replace...

oh and the chip isn't being used... i previously found it by the factory H3Z1 but wasn't hooked up... upon talking to the previous owner, he had a larger MAF with that chip.. but it started to act funny one day so he put the stock MAF back in and just unplugged the chip...

It's possible the D4U1 you got is a bad one. If you got it off ebay then return it within the time limit or if you got it at a junk yard, see if you can exchange it if they have another.

the mounting of the computer does not provide ground, as its mounted to a plastic tab. The wiring harness that plugs into the computer has the grounds the computer uses.....

that ribbon attachment to your ECU is a LPM, it is probably tuned for your style computer, but I believe SHOsource can retune it to another calibration. For instance, if you got a D4U1 computer, and you wanted to tune up that LPM for maybe more power or to change aspect of your cars programming, I think you could sent it out and it would be reflashed to the D4u1 program and would work with the updated ECU.... I would defintely keep it, as they are getting pricey these days.
