Does anyone know what would make my 93 MTX run like S$%& in the rain. It has o.k. throttle response crusing, but when I push the pettle down it chugs and chugs. This only happens in the rain and no where else. Any suggestions.

That sounds really crazy. Is it possible that water is getting up on some of your electrical connections? Next it happens pull over some where and look on the coil and other such areas that would affect the firing.

Or you could just not drive it when it rains. thumbs_u

Sorry I had to through that in there. but believe me I know all about those phantom problems. My SHO hasen't ran in almost a month because it's not firing and I can't figure out why.

But good luck finding your problem!

Eric,

How old are your spark plug wires?

When humidity gets very high, bad plug wires can leak and cause a significant power/performance loss or even can keep the engine from running.

A bad coil pack can do the same thing.

I concur with projectSHO89. The greatest liklihood is leaking spark plug wires. They deteriorate with age and lose their ability to contain the very high voltage of the spark. Plug wires are a maintenance item and should be replaced every 120,000 miles or 5 or so years of use.

You should also run the EEC tests: the engine off (KOEO) and engine running (KOER) tests to determine if there are other problems. See the link below for instructions and the simple hookup. The only wire you need to install is the jumper between the Self Test Input and the Signal Return terminals of the test plugs. The EEC TEST plugs are located on the firewall above the power steering pump. The 3-digit code descriptions are available through a link at the top of the page.

Thanks for the info everyone. As long as I have had the car I have not changed the plugs or wires. Dad said they were o.k. This is only the second summer I have driven her. This sounds like a good winter fix up.

Once again thanks.

I agree with the plugs and wires needing attention. another area to check is the air filter. If for some reason you get exsessive amounts of water in the air intake tract, the MAF will not be able to get an accurate reading of what's going on. An open style conical filter and certainly a ram air set-up would be ideal conditions in letting the filter get wet.
