My car has started cutting out. its not a major cut out but its a cut out and a loss of power and it seems to back fire a little also. It does not seem to be missing any just cutting out and has gotten kinda hard to start (its gotta crank a few times before it starts) and when it starts its like it has to wind up slowly right at first. I just moved from the south to the north a couple months ago but I don't know if that makes any difference because it was running fine a couple days ago. Anyone have any ideas of what it mite be? I just changed the cam sensor s couple weeks ago and it ran fine after I put it in ( it would miss intermittently). It just started doing this like 2 or 3 days ago. The motor has 80k miles on it and has been well cared for and kept up. Please help!

Sometimes it might test out OK but still not work properly. Mine gave out no codes with one computer but did the opposite with another yet the same symptoms were present with both of them. Start with cleaning using a dedicated MAF cleaner and go from there.

If you need a replacement MAF, get an OEM Ford unit. You can find them for the same price as aftermarket units after the core charge is paid back. Personally, I've never had good experiences with aftermarket MAFs and stick with Ford units.

This is the test you can run:

You need to pull the codes. If a problem occurs, the pcm will set a code even if the ce light does not come on.

My guess is the cam sensor is sick, from the description, but the codes will give you a direction to go that is better than a guess.

I just put a new cam sensor in it a couple weeks ago.
