Would it hurt any if I just cut my muffs off and put straight pipe on? I have the flowmaster 40's and I want a little louder sound. What do you all think?

That's what I did to my wife's 98.....believe me...it's LOUD. Only problem is, one highway trip will have you rethinking your decision. Cruising with the tach at about 2600rpms, the sound is quite nerve-wracking. But if you mostly do city driving, have at em. You'll get a lot of people giving you dirty looks, though.......

Did you like the sound? The flows are just to quiet for me right now. I still have the 3rd cat. on so would that help with it being TOO LOUD?

And is it loud like a Mustang with just straight pipes?

Just cut your tips off or go with full flow tips. Makes a big difference.

mine was no mufflers and just twin tips on both sides and we drove all the way to wisconsin like that hahaha! 18 hours. It was pretty hillarious. but it was alot slower, I don't know if it was lack of back pressure or something, but when I put the mufflers back on you could definately tell the different in low end torque. (got it back).

Like I said...it's pretty damn loud. I've not noticed any loss in power, but when I had mufflers on the car, the IRCM cable was broke, so I thought the car was pretty much slow anyway. After getting a new IRCM (and the large cloud of black smoke the erupted from the tailpipes when the secondaries opened for the first time), and a new altenator (getting rid of about 30hp worth of parasitic drag from a burned out bearing....couldn't even turn the thing by hand), the car feels wonderful......would easily smoke my old 94ATX....

Ian is right. The best of both worlds can be yours with the push of a button (electric cutout). I do agree that NO mufflers will get old, especially during any drive greater than, say 15 minutes. The cutout is by far the best ($125, IIRC) money and mod that I have done to my car, well except for the cowl hood. If you are against this idea...
I just posted in the other thread about the 3rd cat removal... the one car I heard w/o the 3rd cat sounded GREAT (like a hotrod). I would have that removed (with the resonator) before removing the mufflers. Won't be quite as loud, but def. loud enough. Email Rick Glass at v8sho.com. ... it was his car that I heard.
