Common Probs. w/95 mtx?

Hi all, I'm new to the fwd community. My neighbor is selling her 95 mtx sho w/92k miles on it. She is asking $3500 for it. I was curious what I should be careful to look for when I check the car out tonight. Any advice is appreciated.

Pull a spark plug boot off and see if there is oil on it. If so this can be costly to repair unless you do the work yourself. It also generally means that the car has not been maintained up to par.

See what she has done to maintain the car.

The sway bars are prolly undersized as well.


Check and see if she has replaced the clutch and or had the 60k maintence done.

Well, I checked about the 60k maintenance, and she said that she had skipped it. Did a tuneup and FuelPump R&R on it though. Does $3500 sound like a good deal if it is clean, w/no probs? I really think these cars look sharp!
Also, where is common rust spots on these cars?

She skipped it? Its not something that you should skip. Tell her it is REQUIRED maintence and it drastically reduces the price of the car. I would offer $3k for it


What color is it?

Rust spots: above the rear window, inner fender wells, rear decklid, and door sills and edges.

It is green w/ tan leather. muy excellante looking. Thanks for the headsup concerning the rustspots. I will be vigillant in looking for various problems. She's had it out for 2 days, so I wanna snag it if it is cool before she sells it. I remember riding in it about 6 years ago, and I thought it was pretty cool. I am kinda weird when it comes to my vehicles. So far I have owned:

1987 S-10
1989 S-10 4x4
1991 Mustang GT
1992 Mustang LX Coupe, DIY TT Swap
1991 F-150
1993 SVT Lightning
1995 T/A
1995 T/A

And that's in only 6 years!

Thing I hated about my 95' when I first got it.

Crappy (SLO) Springs
Crappy (SLO) Struts
Crappy (SLO) Sway Bars

Things I liked about it.

No rust
easy to do 96+ brake upgrade
Solid ETAC Buttons


I would offer her $2900 and go up to as high as $3200.

look for rust in the spots between teh unitbody and teh wheel well lining.
also I would think it would cost you 600-1000 to do a complete 60/120k job and you should consider doing it as soon as you buy the car. also check the oil make sure it's clean and doesn't smell like gas.
make sure you don't hear any scraping or grinding while moving in gear it may be a bad differential.
