I got a deal on a used air raid on eBay and I hope to get it be Friday. That being said I hope I can make it to the track on Sunday to see if it makes a difference. Weather should be equally ****** as the last time I went out. See if it makes any difference with the downpipes. For a 140 bucks who cares

Just make sure to install the seal in the correct direction, and chalkline the seal to make sure the seal is snug to the hood. That was the problem with the Airaid, ingesting engine bay air instead of the cold air it is designed to. May need to add a seal or request a taller seal from Airaid. In addition, consider insulating the inside of the box, materials can be had fairly inexpensively from home improvement stores.

I run the Airaid, and at the track my 2 fastest times, were HOT LAP runs. I also, have the hood fire pad off, cut out my opening to the snorkle, and removed the rear weather seal. All together seem to keep heat at bay as much as possible.

You car is only as good as the worst piece of equipment you have, a gain is a gain and if you are worried about spending 290.00 then this might not be the right hobby! Just saying!

Quote for today: I believe I'm the worst piece of equipment!:bs:

Yeah here it is... In my opinion stock still wins, money spent on something else looks better to me. The difference from 12.42-12.44 is almost nothing

I ran the MDesign, Windstorm, and stock box with drop in at the track all in one day...multiple runs each.

Windstorm 12.42
MDesign 12.43
Stock with drop in 12.44

This testing was done with our Generation 1 intake system, we are now on Generation 4 which is a larger and redesigned filter and redesigned carbon fiber heat-shielding.

We have already put our Winstorm against the MDesign, as they are less than 5 miles from our shop. Here is the dyno graph of a FBO SHO of ours that was featured in several national publications.

You can clearly see where the restriction of their CAI lies. There are spots at low-end, mid range and then again at the top of the RPM band.

This testing was conducted with our Generation 1 intake system and was done behind closed doors at Livernois, we had no involvement. In another, unbiased testing by a third party client out of state, MDesign Performance Carbon Cold Air Intake gained 10.6whp and 16wtq from simply switching from an AirRaid/Windstorm to the MDesign Performance Carbon CAI which was also a Generation 1 in that unbiased testing.

We have asked you to supply us with your cold air for testing and possible adoption. However, you reversed your initial agreement to do so shortly before you were due to come by. So the lack of involvement has nothing to do with us. We are all about supporting local businesses, and it would be hard for you to be any more local.

Third-party, unbiased testing would be the best approach when comparing two competitor products. For this reason we allow our clients to do dyno testing and send us their information from unbiased, disconnected interest dyno shops across the U.S. and Canada.

I was wondering how to improve the stock airbox, so far I have an Amsoil/AFE synthetic dry panel filter. I like the fact the stock box is enclosed. I have experimented a lot in the last few years with CAI. Only CAI box that worked better then my customized stock boxes was a Vararam design on my G8. My mustang gt, dodge magnum, regal gs all were better or equal to my best purchased CAI. What can we do to our stockbox?

I took the "snorkel off of my stock box about two months ago. I would highly doubt there is any performance gain but the increased turbo noise is worth it to me!

Awesome, I had my car for 160 miles then threw a code and PTU went out (see my introduction for info), so I just drooling and theorizing while I wait going on two weeks waiting for back ordered PTU. I like to open up ways to get more cold air in and keep hot air out. Not sure what our airbox even looks like. Been looking for a pic of the stock box and our exhaust, hard to find....

I gained about .5 mph which was more than I expected with the air raid. Turbo is louder

Wait you gained .5 mph. I can do that by not running a full tank vs 1/4 tank, or no head wind, or a by having a rear wind, or.....

Yeah, but now imagine having the CAI pllllusss all those other factors. .5 from the CAI, plus .5 from weight, plus .5 from a string tailwind.... Point is, it's an advantage that can be matched by other circumstances, OR further enhanced by them. It's not an either/or scenario by any means. Ultimately, it depends if you think the extra power is worth the cost.

Sorry to say, but do a charge back ASAP because I doubt you’ll ever get it.

Typically you will see gains of ~7-10hp in upgrading to our CAI (with no other mods) over the stock box. We have seen vehicles that came in with the MDesign installed, and we switched the owners over to our Windstorm after having seen gains of 22whp on one car and 16whp on another.
Unfortunately, you are incorrect. A tenth is going to equate to about 7 times more power than that.
So it's going to take 154 whp for me to pick up 0.1 second on my 12 second car??! FAAAACK!!!! Guess I better buy 7 windstorms then. Questions: Do I install them all in parallel or in series? How many windstorms can my trunk hold, and would it be enough to get me into the 11's? Do you offer bulk discounts??

Thanks for reviving this old thread so I could enjoy a good chuckle with these ridiculous gems. BTW I thought I had read somewhere that MDesign was out of business. Their social media has been dead for two years...

has Mdesing ghosted others like this before?
I didn't realize mdesign was still selling their intake. I haven't seen anyone post anything about them recently.
