Everything I read says they simply are worth doing on these cars. Is there really any benefit other than cool turbo noise? My car has a drop in k&n, catless downpipes, tstat and 3 bar tune.

Always worth it for looks and/or sound. You will need to add a freer-flowing catback system in order to truly take advantage of the CAI for hp/tq gains though. And for that, the tune will need to be updated.

From what I recall someone telling me, the CAI really shows it's power benefit at the top end, but I could be remembering that wrong. Someone with more gears in the head could tell you better. :)

Typically you will see gains of ~7-10hp in upgrading to our CAI (with no other mods) over the stock box. We have seen vehicles that came in with the MDesign installed, and we switched the owners over to our Windstorm after having seen gains of 22whp on one car and 16whp on another.

I will not step on the toes of an employee of Livernois, but I can state my personal experience with their windstorm CAI.

For ***** and grins, I decided to make 1 run with the OEM air box/filter followed by a 30 minute cool down then another with the Windstorm CAI and filter.

Now it could be due to the tunes, I don't know. But I do know it dropped my times and increased my trap speeds.

Both runs were done from a dead launch as to make it a fair comparison.

Is a CAI worth it? In my opinion, yes...any improvement is always worth it.

OK - so I've seen this claim before. 16 and 22 WHEEL Horsepower is A LOT! My problem is then how do you address the fact the the LMS Windstorm ONLY beat the MDesign by a human hair (.01 seconds) in the 1/4 mile??

I ran the MDesign, Windstorm, and stock box with drop in at the track all in one day...multiple runs each.

Windstorm 12.42
MDesign 12.43
Stock with drop in 12.44

What was the MPH for each of these runs? Were they equally as similar?

Here's the best slips from each one...MDesign ran the first 2 runs, then stock twice & the Windstorm got in 3 tries because they stayed open later for the massive crowd. DA did move up quite a bit from start to finish...about a 1000 points if I'm remembering correctly.

OK, question for Livernois... so does combining the CAI with other mods make an impact? Consider the mods in my signature, what would you estimate my wheel HP to be with the mods and tune listed, and if I swapped back to the stock air box (using same tune), what then? Now... once having answered that, what if the CAI was installed with NO other mods, and how would that compare with the stock air box and NO other mods? I guess what I'm getting at - does the combination of mods matter with a CAI?

Guys, if time slips and dyno graphs will not prove to you that a CAI is going to add power what will? You have hard data to look at yet believe internet engineering more. I personally have posted a few dyno graphs when we had the cars on the rollers here and now Rich has posted times AND time slips. What more evidence is necessary? I'm not bashing you guys, but if seeing proof does not suffice what will? This way if it is logical, and plausible I will try to help.

The combination of mods matters. I have recently posted pics and dyno graphs of 3 cars that have that same combo. BAMsho has posted numerous dyno graphs of his car with the same combo. He has also posted several time slips at 2 different tracks, one of which even has an incline.

Nah, I for one trust you guys! (Or I'd never have ordered your tunes!!) I just wanted to know if the combination of mods mattered to the effect of a CAI - it would explain why some people claim a CAI doesn't add power... maybe their combination was such that it didn't make a significant difference. If I recall correctly, an episode of Mighty Car Mods proved that on a particular N/A vehicle, the CAI made ZERO difference. For our application, if your dyno says it adds power, then clearly, for us, it adds power. 'Nuff said, as far as I'm concerned. :)

EDIT: btw... "internet engineering" haha... gonna have to use that...

That will equate to ~15whp on identical vehicles.

Hey LMS. I've seen an aftermarket CAI just like your Windstorm (on new Mustangs) but they're fully enclosed with a clear plastic lid/cover. Not just open on top with a rubber seal to seat against the hood. Do you plan to offer your Windstorm like this - maybe the next version? Thanks!
