This thread is starting to tell me we need to have CM make a 'SHO NUT special double diaphram clutch' for us, with the FX-100 disc (or some other disc), just like they make our SHO NUT special HD clutch (basically a Stage I, but without any of the pressure plate mods that people have had 'issues' with - just HD straps, rivets, and their FX-100 organic disc). This would eliminate concerns over their FX-300 disc.

Thoughts?

Sounds good to me!!! I'd be in, if it can hold 400hp and last 30k+. It would be the last clutch for the 89. Any guess on a price? Dont mind paying the money, if it does wat it suppose to do!

This is concerning, I always thought the CMIII was bulletproof, as my original lasted 55k miles with no problems. Got a single plate CMIII on the shelf, so it is no good eh?

I didn't say that, lol. Only that the single heavy spring units are discontinued. I think they were having supplier issues, so they went back to making the DD setups with two stock springs they can get when they need them.

The single plate CMIII's that I'm referring to have a MUCH thicker spring than stock. If you got a single plate CMIII with a normal thickness stock spring, then someone messed up the order, either placing the order or filling it. There are two versions of the CMIII for the SHO - a single stock spring version with a modified plate with the segmented Kevlar lining (which we don't sell), and a 'heavy duty' spring version, modified plate, which is either a double stock spring (which is what we sell) or (briefly) a single heavy spring, also with the segmented Kevlar lining.

According to Garu, Kevlar needs a LOT of clamping pressure to work properly, and we have no reason to dispute that, so in our opinion, the Kevlar discs need the double diaphram plate (or the heavy single spring ones).

We've never really liked Kevlar ourselves, as the pressure plate tends to get warped with them (and the double diaphram plate needs to have the plate thinned to account for the second spring, which makes the plate easier to warp). Our home-brew double diaphram + Fibretuff ones don't warp the plate, but they are just too damn chattery, so that's why we want to try an organic disc under the double diaphram plate next. Of course until we find a proven combo, we can't offer what we do for sale, so we sell the standard CMIII with a double diaphram plate and the segmented Kevlar disc, for which we've heard few complaints about until recently.

Based on our experience with our own HD unit and making the V8 MTX conversion clutches, it would be no more expensive than a standard CMIII, and perhaps a little cheaper.

Thank's for the info Josh. You never sease to amaze me with your sho "Yodaism"!

I guess I should consider myself lucky. I have had 2 CMI clutches and a CMIII and have never had a problem with slippage.

I did love the old fibertuff setup you had made. I liked it so much that I broke the pressure plate straps and rivits at the MI convention.

Good to hear. My original stock CM III lasted 55k+ hard miles. The last one I installed was the thick single plate, still a lot of pedal effort, not quite as much as the twin. Not sure exactly what setup is installed in the track car now, but when it goes out, it is good to know that the single plate CMIII I have on the shelf will work.

I am going to try and see if Clutchmasters will swap out the single finger pp for a double. The pp we have now has got stock pressure and don't think it will be enough for the amount of beating we want to do.

still ****** at having put pull the clutch again.

Speak to whoever does your CM ordering for you. You *have* to specify the double spring when ordering a CMIII or you may get the stock single spring verson.

will do thanks. Will say that we expected the double finger feller and thought this was an upgrade and they knew it would hold but didn't.

Will report what happens.

Tim, ill gladly take it off your hands for 50.00! I love the clutch!
I guess some are good and some are bad, the one in my car has taken all kinds of abuse.

Hole shot after hole shot
Small road courses
Big road courses where I had no brakes so I used the trans/clutch as a brake for the whole day.

maybe its like the car assembly line, you dont want a friday clutch?
