As indicated in the title, occurred May 28. Starting with background: 92k, stock other than airaid cai. In late April / early May I was driving and noticed an odd noise from the engine compartment. Drove the car to the dealership, and left it for the noise and a couple other issues I was seeking repairs for before my premium care expires at 100k. Service determined that the rear turbo had failed & subsequently replaced it. Upon picking the vehicle up, I sought confirmation from the writer that the oil had been changed (seemed like a reasonable action to associate with replacing a broken turbo), he said “yes”. Hit the road to another city 250 miles one way, on return I noted no change in the “stumble” under acceleration. A new development occurred with the car going into limp home mode with a code for a misfire in #6. Checking the engine I found that the oil had NOT been changed. I reset the code & everything seemed ok but I drove it gently. Got the oil changed ASAP, and contacted the dealership to advise the stumble I had reported was not fixed & planned to take it back in.
Scheduling prevented me from getting the car in & I had to make another trip of 250 miles 1 way. Feeling like it was safe to drive I embarked, fueled up about an hour in & shortly after getting back on the interstate I accelerated not aggressively - and then it happened.
After the car was rolled off the flatbed, I found pieces of engine on wrecker floor. The dealership attributed the failure to a failed wrist pin, resulting in 2 new air holes in the block & lots of extra recycling pieces. The ESP is covering a new long block thankfully, however it’s being worked on an hour plus from home & now I’m stuck with the rental fees after 10 days covered by the warranty. Any input is welcome, & thanks for reading if you’ve actually made it this far!
