I have a 2010 Taurus SHO PP with just over 51K miles on it and I somehow blew a hole in my engine block due to a broken piston. Oil has been changed every 3k miles with Full Synthetic. Has anyone else ever had this problem? My mechanic has never seen anything like this and believes it was definitely a defect. Although I am out of warranty, I am wondering if pursuing Ford is out of the question (lawsuit ect.)? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

With the information presented here, you would hope that Ford would take an interest in your unusual issue. If you were fortunate enough to have retained the original dealership through the warranty period, the case becomes even more compelling.
I would satisfy myself by ensuring that Ford has become aware of the situation while working with the original sale dealership and the area representative of Ford motor company....the emphasis on motor.

At the same time we must remember the shameful position that Ford took on the cam welding issue in their flagship model SHO of the day back in 96 to 99.

Their handling of the intermittent windshield wiper issue in the late 60s, early 70s does not make for inspired reading either.

Give them a chance and see how it goes, At the same time, begin your plan B scenario where you locate a replacement unit.

OP stated in another forum, that he has an intake (did not specify who's) and also stated he was tuned and used an SCT device.

The only tuner I am aware of, that still uses SCT, is Torrie over at Unleashed Tuning.

I'll defer to the OP to verify.

But, regardless, I'd highly doubt Ford would touch the claim, or even potential litigation with a 10' pole.

Quite honestly, nor should they.

Many reputable tuners use SCT, but you can also purchase the device, and software to program the car yourself. So at this point, we really have NO idea about the tune unless OP cares to elaborate. Then there's the maintenance aspect, it may seem a small contribution, but not so.

I asked because in that case it's plausibly connected to the tune rather than a mechanical defect. I think you have no recourse with Ford other than making a polite request for assistance; perhaps they will offer something since your mileage is relatively low for a 2010.

I PMd him on the other forum asking about which tuner he uses... crickets....

He hasn't really responded so not quite sure what he is looking for? Maybe just a link or information to a class action lawsuit..

Quite an unfortunate circumstance. As always, see if there is a way that Ford themselves can help you, but not sure how high I would get my hopes. Being that odds are stacked against you in this regard I would start deciding on where to go from here (big power build, stock rebuild, added security?). Regardless of the decision, let us know if there is anything that we can assist with, we would be more than happy to help.

F150 owners have been blowing holes in the sides of their blocks since 2012. Surprised it isn't more prevalent with these motors.

It's a shame that the non-FI SHO has stronger internals that the 3.5 Ecoboost.

Blowing holes in the sides of the block on stock motors? Or after tunes?

That not every tuning company uses SCT devices... majority do... not all.. just saying there are other platforms besides LMS and SCT. No biggie.

Show me one in the sho community that doesn't? Other then lms. The new n-gauge is starting to get used. But as far as I know only Torrie is offering that right now.

Thank you for proving my point that BPD has no idea what he's talking about.
