so... it's not fixed after all ! after re attaching the ground the intermittent short is still there, but almost always repeatable...

key turned on... dim CEL for 2-3 seconds... fuel pump running... CEL goes bright and within 1-2 seconds fuel pump stops and car will start - WTF !!!!

Can the computer be intermittent like this ????? I really don’t want to spend $200 for no reason… and on that note – why do you guys call the computer a PCM ? AZ, Rock Auto and the other stores call the CCRM the PCM (power train control module) – AZ, Rock Auto and the other stores call the computer the ECM ??

There are two green and black ground wires coming from the “PCM” and I have bypassed that and it does not affect the current scenario ??
I have swapped my original CCRM with the one I bought and this does not change anything…??

How about the actula EEC module in the glove box... can that work intermittently like this ??

Anyone ??

the idiots at AutoZone, Advanced and RockAuto all relate PCM-Powertrain Control Module to the CCRM... so just making sure we are all on the same page..

my big question is... can the computer be intermittent ?

another update.... but first... can an EEC be checked while out of the car ??

I still have the intermittent symptoms and decided to play around with the computer... I disconnected the screwed in plug and all looked fine... but I sprayed with WD-40 and brushed the contacts... blew the entire thing off, reconected and got the "good" bright cel... car starts and does so every time for more than a few tries... I leave the car running and go to the engine compartment to wiggle some more... car dies while I am standing there... it does this a couple times and then goes back to the intermittent symptoms.

I am leaning towards a computer problem and will be taking mine to the Ford dealer tomorrow to have it checked.. if they can do such a thing ??? I will most likey be in the market for an X2J computer that is known to be good.... anyone ????

I have read some threads about a bad coolant over flow sensor doing wierd things... anyone know if that could produce symptoms like mine?? I have cleaned it but ther than that I have no idea

Also wanted to note that I have been un able to pull any codes.... i have followed the procedure but I do not get a blinking CEL ?

What do you mean when you say you by-passed the black with green wires of the PCM (also known as the ECM or computer)? The ground wires of the SHO PCM are always on the last pins of each row; therefore, ground is fed to the computer by pins 20, 40 and 60. The computer then distributes this "ground" to activate all sorts of things on the car. Those three wires MUST be attached to their respective grounding points. If they share an eyelet with another black wire from somewhere else, it is important that both wires are shorted to each other in the eyelet and connected to ground.

bypassed may have been a bad word... there were 2 black/green wires that turn into one at a plug at the passenger side fender... I thought that connection was bad and made sure that ground was good by conecting it to a different ground - "bypassed"

If you still can, try and put that ground wire back to its original location. That part might be the ground path to another location. These cars are very Electronic in nature and messing with just one little wire can have stupefying results. The SHO's body is built out of a lot of pieces of steel; some need to be grounded, some don't.

I don't like messing with the SHO gods, they're a mean bunch.

It is back to its original configuration... it didnt seem to matter one way or the other. I am going to try and have the computer tested at Ford today and will go from there...
