My 92 SHO check engine light came on at idle then about 10 seconds later the car shut off.

When I put the key in the run position I did not hear the fuel pump buzz (usually I hear it for a couple of seconds with the key in the run position).

When I tried to perform the KOEO test immediately, the computer would not engage any codes (it almost appeared that the jumper wire was not recognized since the check engine light remained illuminated). The battery seemed strong and there was no indication of low voltage (i.e. lights were not dimming).

I'm going to have my battery recharged since the vehicle had the hazards on for approx. 4 hours.

Shouldn't the fuel pump buzz? Why would the computer not enter the KOEO test? Could I have a bad CPS or CIP sensor?

Thanks in advance for any replies, the help is much appreciated.

The CPS fault will **** the engine immediately and the CID failure won't **** it, just keep it from starting easily. Problably not either of these.

You have run the KOEO test before this event it sounds, but you didn't mention turning the ignition key ON. You may have identified the problem when you said that you didn't hear the fuel pump run when you turned the key to ON. It should run for about 1.5 seconds as you stated. See if you can run the KOEO test and get the stored code(s). It may be pointing to the fuel pump or pump circuit. You should expect to get the secondary fuel pump circuit failure because the engine stalled. Make sure the battery terminals are clean and secure.

Thanks for the response.

The problem was a faulty relay control module.

The dimming of the check engine light and the fuel pump not turning on pointed me to the module since the module shares power with the computer and is responsible for power to the fuel pump. The faulty module apparently was drainging power from the computer since the check engine light was dim and the computer would not perform the KOEO test.

I replaced the module with one from a 93 ATX SHO and the car started up fine.

Could the fact that the module is located above the radiator where it receives an impact everytime the hood has to be slammed shut, be a factor? I had replaced the same module last year about 6 months ago (that one had a crack at the connector, this last one did not though).

Thanks again for your response.

Excellent work, Jorge! I can't imagine the ICRM to be too impact sensitive given the number of times I have had to slam my fiberglass hood over the years.
