About two weeks ago i was driving home to kansas city from saint louis, about a mile from home weird wheel barringish sounding noise from the rear. I had a feeling something was pretty f'ed. Had it towed to ford next day, diagnosis was catastrophic failure of the rear differential. (70000 miles changed diff fluid at 35000 and 60000 miles, car is stock except for springs) Got a quote for repair of around 2300.00. Its my only vehicle, i have to be mobile for work etc, i bite the bullet and say do it.

short story long, they call me about every 3 days to tell me there is 0 availability of parts and no certain idea when that will change. What would someone with a load more knowledge than me do here?

Locate a used unit to install? There are used parts search engines on the internet. They usually have parts info regarding mileage, distance from you, etc. If you have a Ford part number that would help. The AWD models are not always available in drop down menus so you may have to submit a part request and have companies that subscribe to that particular search engine shoot you an email with quote. Here is part number I pulled from a dealer parts website. Not sure if it is complete and make sure the gear ratio is what you want as police is listed as 2.99 and other are listed as 3.39. I assume those are standard for police and performance pack vs other SHOs.

This company seems to have a few https://www.ebay.com/itm/224853214702?hash=item345a4bc5ee:g:o4kAAOSwYcliFpr7

good luck. Nothing worse than needing a vehicle for work and not having it available.
Sorry I thought I posted the part number I found in the previous post GB5P4000AB

I sometimes look at used parts this way:

It lasted this long, we got a runner. It's already broken in.

quite a few I've found have less miles than the car. calling an local independent shop in the morning. Im also coming to the conclusion that the risk of used is acceptable because it sure looks like its going to cost quite a bit less

Over all this went great. Saved money and found a dood to do PTU service going forward.

however....somewhere between the dealer and the other shop and the two tows... this treason has occurred, and of course no one knows anything.

The door/ cover works, but the body panel piece has been broken off. Can i get this individual piece in tuxedo black,

or do i need to buy the whole assembly as in https://imageappoh.car-part.com/ima...15 Ford Taurus Fuel Filler Door-Stock# 110680

I see one unpainted. Part number AG1Z 54405A26-AAPTM. Not sure if you can get one already in body color paint. Local dealer parts people should be able to confirm or not. Not sure if it clips in, requires a piece swap out, or if there is adhesive required. No experience replacing one.

this one has a pic of front and back of the part https://www.ebay.com/itm/263959364207

I think it would probably be cheaper to buy the whole assembly off car-part.com as opposed to buying just the door and having it painted.
