Are the 3.0 and 3.2 cam tensioners the same?

I have a hollow knock at idle 750 rpm to about 2,000 RMP. It goes away above 2,000 and returns louder at deceleration about 1,500 RPM. Sounds like it is coming from the valve train, my guess is the cam tensioner. Great power and no oil consumption & no overheating.

Alternate explanations welcome.

(probably should shim it while I have the valve covers off, anyone have that link to the howto?)

It may be just the valve shims are worn... Possibly the tensioner, but if you're ripping the intake and cam covers off, you might as well check em both... Good luck man, and make sure and check those stem seals...

No, it can be done with the heads on. The people who have done it weren't too fond of the job. Personally I don't think the job would be TOO bad. But still the valve stem seals sit in a baggy on a shelf in my garage. :D
