Stop the car and dont drive it anymore, if it just started to do the ticking an experience welder can have it fixed with no problem; Theres plenty of people in this forum that could fix it for you. Price depends on the guy that will do the service but it is around $600 to $800.
Somebody will chime in to give you good advise. :)

DON'T DRIVE IT ANYMORE!!! DON'T EVEN START IT!!

The next turn of the key can turn your engine into a boat anchor.

EDIT: I don't know where you are at in MI, but Rik Evans up around Ortonville can weld them: [email protected]

Have you seen the new "Almost Cam Failure" pictures on v8sho.com? They've posted some remarkable pictures of a camshaft on it's way out that should help you understand what's going on.

What you have isn't what I personally would consider a "failure," you have a loose sprocket. Once a sprocket begins to loosen, it will quickly eat away metal from the camshaft, getting looser and looser, until it spins and you have a full cam failure and a ruined engine.

EDIT: You likely won't notice any driveability problems until it's too late. When your sprocket slips enough that the pistons strike the valves, you've already done major damage to the engine.

Get it welded ASAP! Every revolution of the engine is a throw of the dice.

Seriously don't drive or start the car until you have the cams welded. If he is only ten miles just have it towed.

Like I said before your best option is to get it done by someone that knows what theyre doing; do yourself a favor and go to www.V8sho.com and look for the list of welders close to your area.

It runs a pretty penny depending on who does the work. If you get it welded make sure someone who really knows this issue looks at it and does the work. If something is already damaged then it's different than just getting the cams welded.

Glad to help! If you're anything like myself, you'll enjoy yourself driving a welded car much more than unwelded. My SHO didn't tick, but for the two weeks I daily drove it with unwelded cams I was very nervous. Now that it's welded it's an absolute pleasure to drive.

I remember the first time my SHO stalled at a light, and I thought to myself ****, I can't believe my Cams just failed. Then I went into this whole rant about never getting a Gen 3 again, they're POS, etc.

I sat at that light for 20 mins, enraged, with traffic backing up now for several blocks. Took me another 5 mins to realize that I bought a SHO with welded cams! :nut: One swift turn of the key, and she started right up. Turned out to be a bad coil.

Boy did I feel like a loser.
