Cable/Rod Shift Question

Aren't SHO's great? Well, the engines, at least? Everything else is made by ford, therefore it's all total crap. Anyway, I've been having near-constant battles with my cable-shift ends actually staying on the transmission, and now, it's doing the same crap on the shift arm (shifter, or whatever it's called) side. I tried to fix it, but when I did, it wasn't moving in any direction. I got so fed up with it, I pushed on the lever until it broke the housing, so now I need to replace it all. My question is this: are the shift arms inter-changeable for the rod and cable shift? Somebody before me had cut the shift arm on the rod shift in half to make it a "short throw" shift or something, I don't know. But if I'm going to put that rod shift on, I want to replace the shift arm.

No part of the cable shifter is interchangable with the rod shifter, except the **** and the leather boot.

Well, crap. Then does anybody, by some odd chance, have an old cable shift setup sitting around?

Not to steal his thread, but since it is on topic. Is there any way to tighten up the coupler that connects the shifter to the tranny on a rod shifter setup?

On a rod shifter, the shifter connects to the tranny shift shaft by a nut, bolt, and clevis. The clevis is basically two peices of metal in an almost "C" shape. Tightening this should be done by just tightening the nut.

there is a rubber bushing in there too. i beleive jose was making delrin or aluminum bushings to replace these, and take up some of the slack. also you may want to replace the ball socket at the bottom of the shifter. $20 or so from SHONUT. these wear and make the shifter feel sloppy.
