I noticed that there seems to be a layer of "soot" inside the tailpipe of my car. I just put the ss y-pipe on and an 80mm Pro M. The car runs great as usual, but i just never seemed to notice this black soot stuff before. The only other difference is the weather is about 15 degrees cooler than normal (if this makes a diff). No loss of power, no oil from the pipe, just a sooty material. Does it seem like a fuel problem? Thanks for any help guys.

the soot is normal, we find it alot here in the northeast, esp when the weather is cold because it signals rich running conditions, if i am correct. its normal to find some but i think if you begin finding it caked all over the pipes then you should worry. maybe someone else can chime in though. hope it helps!

Neill,

The black soot is an indication of a rich fuel mixture. A small amount in the cold months is normal, as the mixture is enrichened for the warm-up of the engine.

Check your codes for any indication of an o-2 sensor problem, or an idle air control (IAB)problen. The IAB may need to be cleaned.

If the car is running fine, and your fuel milage is normal for your driving habits, then don't worry about it! rangerj
