My buddy just got a 90 White on Black with 130,000 or so miles on it for 400 bucks. The only problems with the car (besides shot brakes) is that the electric fan won't kick on and the blower motor doesn't turn on I guess. He was wondering if anyone knows about a potential problem that could be causing this. Apparently the fan, and sending unit/switch has already been replaced.

Electrical problems are not fun in a SHO and even worse when its cold out. I would start with a volt meter and see if the blower motor is even getting any power and work from there. If you can get the blower motor out - put 12 volts to it from the battery and see if she spins. If not, start calling junk yards or get a replacement.

Even though the fan has been replaced - never take someones word that it was done without actually seeing it performed.

Try unplugging the fan and wiring it straight to the battery - if it spins up, then the problem is either wiring, the sending unit, or the CCRM. If it's not the motor, my next guess would be the CCRM. There's some testing procedures you can do, I just forget the details.

yeah, i know the fan was replaced bc i have the reciept along with every other reciept for anything ever purchased for the car.it was meticulously cared for.it even has ever reciept for putting gas in it as well as the original window sticker amongst other things.im going to try the efan directly powered first but i was thinking ccrm myself.my question is could that be faulty if the fuel pump still works? as far as the inside blower motor i have no idea.the car came with a new set of climate control buttons anyway so i'll replace that in hopes of it fixing.if not isnt there some control under the dash that pulls out with 2 8mm screws or something?

In a word: Yes. The CCRM has about a dozen little relays in there that control all the stuff; one can fail without affecting the other. I would recommend having a "conversation" with the CCRM... italian style, if you know what I mean. Beat it against a flat surface (once you've removed it, obviously) a few times - this should unstick any relays that are sticky. If they've outright failed, it won't help, but it's worth a shot.

As far as the blower motor goes, first check the fuses. There is a module called the Blower Motor Speed Controller (BCM [blower control module] or BMSC for short) that likes to stop working and take the blower motor, and the fuse, out with it. It's got one huge power amp on it that likes to short out over age due to moisture.
