well i doubt it will be done.... its not in my hands anymore... all i can do is find the trans for somwhere around 500... then after that thier fixing it.... its like they said **** you, you need to fix this NOW!!!

what is the difference in the trans (cable vs linkage) are they interchangeable.... if i buy a linkage what do i have to do to make it work in my car???

just wondering because thiers a better deal on a linkage shift

They are interchangable. The shifter linkage in rod shifter cars does not use the bracket that is attached to cable shifted tranmissions.

If you get a trans from a cable shift car, just strip off the bracket and use your rod shifter.

One thing though. The earlier trannies(read cable shifted) used solid brass blocking rings. Most people say that the solid brass rings have a notchy feel to them. Combine this with a rod shifter and you might notice a significant amount of notchyness. Personally, I like a notchy shifter when just cruising around. It lets me feel the gears better (just a personal thing).

Edit: the later MTXs (read rod shifted) used fiber lined blocking rings. These rings boast smoother engagement.

I'm confused. Are you fixing this car and do you need a tranny? I may have one soon but not in the next week.

i blew the trans and i bought one from a local yard and it didnt go into 2 4 and R.... so i brought it back and the only one they can get is 850 and thats not going to work because i have 500....

you said you might have a tranny??? how much??? where are you located??? you know its a good trans???

My 89 has a tranny swap happening soon. It has 176k miles on it. It was working well before the clutch went bad. I have been waiting on busy Bizzy to find a couple of synchros and reinforce the diff from a second tranny I bought to refresh and swap. Since at this time I am not doing the work myself I need this tranny to be back together and ready to go in before I can send off the one that is currently in the 89. If you are planing on keeping your car you will still want to at least have the diff re-pinned or you could end up with the same blown case as in your pics. I bought the car with 150k miles on it and assume it is the original. I never beat on it but I have no other history. $350 plus about $45 shipping. $3-5 more for ins.
